PM Modi dedicates to nation multiple National Highway and Road projects for boosting connectivity to Pandharpur in Maharashtra

  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone and dedicated various National Highway and Road projects to the nation in the temple town of Pandharpur in Maharashtra, through video conference on November 08, 2021.
  • These initiatives are aimed at improving connectivity in the region to facilitate hassle free and safe movement of devotees.
  • PM laid the foundation stone for four laning of five sections of Sreesanth Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Palkhi Marg (NH-965) and four laning of three sections of Sant Tukaram Maharaj Palkhi Marg (NH-965G).
  • The Sreesanth Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Palkhi Marg will be completed in five phases at estimated costs of more than Rs. 6690 crore while Sant Tukaram Maharaj Palkhi Marg will be completed in three phases at estimated costs of about Rs. 4400 crore.
  • The project also includes construction of dedicated walkways for ‘Palkhi’ on either side of these National Highways
  • PM also dedicated to the nation more than 223 km of completed and upgraded road projects of over Rs. 1180 crore at different National Highways aimed at boosting connectivity to Pandharpur.

Centre launches first-ever Star College mentorship programme for young innovators

  • The Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Science & Technology Dr Jitendra Singh launched the first-ever Mentorship Programme for Young Innovators on November 08, 2021.
  • The ‘DBT-Star College Mentorship Programme’ is a pan India Scheme which envisages to set up Star College in every district of the country.
  • These star colleges will be supported by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), under the science and technology ministry.
  • The Programme will help to realise the concept of networking, hand holding and outreach by:
    • Organising workshops and meetings every month.
    • handhold colleges particularly in the rural areas or lesser endowed areas
    • conduct outreach activities with government schools
  • The programme will also help newly launched colleges which have begun their journey under the scheme to come up as per the mandate of Star College scheme.

Cabinet approves to observe November 15 as Janjatiya Gaurav Divas

  • The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved declaration of November 15 as Janjatiya Gaurav Divas.
  • 15 November has been chosen as this date marks the birth anniversary of Sri Birsa Munda who is revered as Bhagwan (God) by tribal communities across the country.
  • The Janjatiya Gaurav Divas is dedicated to the brave tribal freedom fighters and their sacrificed for the country.
  • The day will be celebrated every year from now on to recognize the efforts of the tribals for preservation of cultural heritage and promotion of Indian values of valour, hospitality and national pride.

India launches E-Amrit portal for Electric Vehicles at COP26

  • India has launched E-Amrit portal on electric vehicles (EVs) at the ongoing COP26 Summit in Glasgow on November 10, 2021.
  • The web portal has been developed by NITI Aayog with support from UK government.
  • E-Amrit is one-stop destination to provide all information regarding electric vehicles.
  • The website will provide details related to burst myths around the adoption of EVs, as well as their purchase, investment opportunities, policies, subsidies, among other things to raise awareness about EVs and sensitise consumers on the benefits of switching to electric mobility.

  • Srinagar, the capital city of Jammu and Kashmir has been designated as a part of UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) on November 08, 2021.
  • Srinagar has been designated in craft and folk art field.
  • It is the is only sixth Indian city to achieve this distinction after Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Varanasi and Jaipur.
  • As of now, there are 295 cities from 90 countries in the UCCN network.

Tripura launches India’s first cricket bats and stumps made of Bamboo

  • India’s first-ever bamboo-made cricket bats and stumps have been launched by the Bamboo and Cane Development Institute (BCDI) of Tripura 
  • The indigenous Bamboo Cricket bats and Stumps have been manufactured by the BCDI in collaboration with North East Centre of Technology Application and Reach (NECTAR).
  • These bats can be used in all formats of cricket

Third Goa Maritime Conclave 2021 Begins

  • The third edition of Goa Maritime Conclave (GMC) 2021 has been organised by the Indian Navy from November 07 to 09, 2021 at Naval War College, Goa.
  • Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Karambir Singh would chair the conclave.
  • The theme for 2021 GMC is “Maritime Security and Emerging Non-Traditional Threats: A Case for Proactive Role for IOR Navies”
  • Chiefs of Navies/ Heads of Maritime Forces from 12 Indian Ocean Region (IOR) countries are participating in the conclave, which includes Bangladesh, Comoros, Indonesia, Madagascar, Malaysia, Maldives, Mauritius, Myanmar, Seychelles, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Thailand.
  • The conclave provides a platform to discuss non-traditional threats in the Indian Ocean Region and other issues.

USA becomes 101st member country of International Solar Alliance (ISA)

  • The United States of America (USA) has joined the International Solar Alliance (ISA) as a member country on November 10, 2021.
  • U.S is now the 101st country to sign the framework agreement of the ISA.
  • The framework agreement was formally signed by John Kerry, the U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Climate, at the COP26 climate summit in Glasgow.

India Placed at 10th Ranks in the Climate Change Performance Index (CCPI) 2022

  • India has been placed at 10th spot in the global Climate Change Performance Index (CCPI) 2022 released by Germanwatch on the side-lines of the COP26. In 2020 also India was at 10th position.
  • India has retained its position as the top 10 best performing countries with higher climate performance for the third year in a row .
  • Meanwhile, the top three places in the overall ranking is once again empty as none of the country performed well enough  to achieve an overall very high rating in CCPI.
  • Moving ahead, Denmark occupied the fourth place as the highest ranked country in CCPI 2022, followed by Sweden (5th), and Norway (6th) respectively.
  • Other countries in top 10 are  United Kingdom (7th), Morocco (8th) and Chile (9th).

  • Gujarat has once again retained the topped place in Logistics Ease Across Different States (LEADS) index for 2021 among 21 states.
  • Gujarat is followed by Haryana and Punjab as the top performers in the LEADS 2021 index.
  • LEADS is a perception-based index, published by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to rank States and UTs on mobility of goods and the efficiency of their logistics ecosystem.

RBI launches its First Global Hackathon named HARBINGER 2021

  • The Reserve Bank of India has launched its first global hackathon named “HARBINGER 2021 – Innovation for Transformation”. The theme of HARBINGER 2021 is ‘Smarter Digital Payments’.
  • The winner of the hackathon will get a reward prize of Rs. 40 lakh while the Runner-up will get Rs. 20 lakh.

SBI launches video life certificate service for pensioners

  • The State Bank of India (SBI) has come out with a video life certificate service for pensioners, which is completely paperless and free of cost.
  • The new facility will enable the pensioners to submit their life certificates through video at the comfort of their homes.
  • However, this facility is only for pensioners and not for family pensioners, which means that spouse of the pensioner receiving the government pension will not be able to use this facility.

Brickwork Ratings Projects India’s GDP at 10-10.5% in FY2022

  • Domestic credit rating agency Brickwork Ratings has estimated the gross domestic product (GDP) of India at 10-10.5 percent in the current financial year, i.e. in 2021-22 (FY22).
  • Earlier this was estimated at 9 percent.
  • Brickwork Ratings is a SEBI registered Credit Rating Agency with headquarter at Bengaluru.

Vice Admiral R Hari Kumar named as next Chief of the Naval Staff

  • Vice Admiral R Hari Kumar has been named as the next Chief of the Naval Staff by the Government of India.
  • He is presently posted as Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief Western Naval Command.
  • Kumar will take on the new role with effect from November 30, 2021. 
  • He will replace incumbent Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Karambir Singh, who will complete his tenure on November 30, 2021.

Morinari Watanabe re-elected as President of International Gymnastics Federation

  • Morinari Watanabe from Japan has been re-elected as the president of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) for a period of three year on November 06, 2021.
  • He was first elected as the president of FIG in 2016 for a four-year term beginning January 2017.
  • His term was then extended by one year.
  • Watanabe will now continue to hold the position till 2024.

  • The International Cricket Council (ICC) has declared Pakistan’s batsman Asif Ali as the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for October 2021.
  • Meanwhile, Ireland all-rounder Laura Delany has secured the title of ICC Women’s Player of the Month for October 2021.

India bags 5 medals at inaugural ISSF President’s Cup

  • India finished the inaugural ISSF President’s Cup with five medals, including two Gold, two Silver and one Bronze.
  • The invitation-only tournament was held at the Wroclaw in Poland, featuring the top-12 shooters in each of the shotgun, pistol and rifle categories.
  • India’s Manu Bhaker bagged two gold medals.

  • In India, 09 November is celebrated as National Legal Services Day” every year by all Legal Services Authorities, to commemorate the enactment of the Legal Services Authorities Act 1987 .
  • On 11 October 1987, the Legal Services Authorities Act 1987 was enacted, while the act was took effect on 9 November 1995.
  • The Day is celebrated to make people aware of the various provisions under the Legal Services Authorities Act and the right of the litigants.
  • The National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) was constituted under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987 on 5 December 1995, to provide free Legal Services to the weaker sections of the society and to organize Lok Adalats for amicable settlement of disputes.

World Science Day for Peace and Development: 10 November

  • The World Science Day for Peace and Development is celebrated each year on November 10 to highlight the important role that science play in society and the need to engage the wider public in debates on emerging scientific issues.
  • World Science Day was proclaimed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 2001 and celebrated for the first time in 2002.
  • 2021 Theme: “Building Climate-Ready Communities”.
  • Additionally, the International Week of Science and Peace (IWOSP) is also observed every year from 9 to 14 November.

  • In India, the National Education Day is celebrated on 11 November every year to commemorate the birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, the first education minister of independent India.

  • Maulana Abul Kalam Azad served as education minister from 15 August 1947 to 2 February 1958.
