  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah laid the foundation for ‘Rani Gaidinliu Tribal Freedom Fighters Museum’ in Manipur on November 22, 2021 through video conferencing.
  • The museum will be set up at Luangkao village in Tamenglong district of Manipur, which is the birthplace of freedom fighter Rani Gaidinliu.
  • The proposed museum is being set up at an estimated cost of Rs 15 crore by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.

Boita Bandana Celebrated in Odisha with fervor

  • The traditional Odia festival Boita Bandana was celebrated throughout Odisha on November 19, 2021 with fervor.
  • The festival is commemorated on Kartika Purnima, or the full moon day of the Kartika month as per Hindu Calendar.
  • Boita Bandana literally means sanctifying of boats.
  • People across the State celebrate the day by floating tiny banana, paper or thermocol boats with diyas, betel leaves, crackers, fruits and coins in the nearest water bodies.
  • The festival is marked to celebrate the glorious maritime history of the state (since it was known as Kalinga) and ancient tradesmen and mariners (known as sadhabas) who traveled on boitas to trade with distant island nations that share borders with the Bay of Bengal like Indonesia, Java, Sumatra and Bali.

India & World Bank inks $250 million loan agreement to improve quality of learning in Andhra Pradesh

  • The Government of India has signed a legal agreements with the World Bank worth $250 million for a project to improve quality of learning in the state of Andhra Pradesh.
  • Over 50 lakh students from all grades and stages of school education will benefit from the project, titled “Supporting Andhra’s Learning Transformation Project”.

Goldman Sachs projects India’s GDP at 9.1% in FY22

  • Wall Street brokerage Goldman Sachs has predicted India’s GDP for FY22 at 9.1% in its recent Macro Outlook 2022 report.
  • Earlier this was estimated at 11.1 percent.
  • Goldman Sachs pegged the economy to grow at 8 percent in Calendar Year 2021 and 9.1 percent in Calendar Year 2022.

37th edition of India-Indonesia Coordinated Patrol (CORPAT) begins in Indian Ocean

  • The 37th edition of India-Indonesia Coordinated Patrol (CORPAT) is being held in the Indian Ocean region on November 23 and 24, 2021.
  • The indigenously built Indian Naval Ship (INS) Khanjar and Dornier Maritime Patrol Aircraft is participating in the CORPAT). Khanjar.
  • From Indonesia, Indonesian Naval Ship KRI Sultan Thaha Syaifuddin, (376) is participating.
  • The Indian Navy and the Indonesian Navy is conducting the CORPAT between the two navies along the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) since 2002.
  • CORPAT is held twice in a year to ensure safety and security in the region for commercial shipping, international trade and conduct of legitimate maritime activities.

Mumbai-based NGO Pratham wins Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace for 2021

  • Pratham, Mumbai-based civil society organization, has been conferred with the prestigious Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development for 2021 by the Indira Gandhi Memorial Trust.
  • Pratham is among India’s largest NGOs working to improve education quality for underprivileged children across the world.
  • “Pratham has been honoured for its pioneering work of over more than a quarter century in seeking to ensure that every child has access to quality education, for its innovative use of digital technology to deliver education, for its programmes to provide skills to young adults, for its regular evaluation of the quality of education, and for its timely response in enabling children to learn during the COVID-19 related school closures”.

  • The 2021 International Emmy Awards was 49th edition of the annual ceremony held in New York City on November 22, 2021.
  • The award recognised excellence in television programs produced and aired originally outside the U.S., and non-English language US primetime program between the dates of January 1, 2020 and December 31, 2020.
  • From India, Nawazuddin Siddiqui was nominated for Best Actor for his performance in Serious Men, Sushmita Sen-led Aarya was nominated for Best Drama and comedian Vir Das was nominated for Best Comedy.
  • However, India could not register a win in any of the above categories.
  • Till date the only Indian show to bag an Emmy is Delhi Crime which won Best Drama in 2020.

Assam Celebrates Lachit Divas on 24 November

  • Lachit Divas (Lachit Day) is celebrated annually in the Indian state of Assam on November 24, to  mark the birth anniversary of the legendary Ahom army general Lachit Borphukan.
  • Chao Lachit was an army general (Borphukan) from Assam, who was the commander at the Battle of Saraighat, which was fought in 1671 between the Mughals and the Ahom Kingdom on the Brahmaputra river at Saraighat, now in Guwahati to curb the expansion of the Mughal Empire in Assam.
