Home Minister Amit Shah lays foundation for ‘Rani Gaidinliu Tribal Freedom Fighters Museum’ in Manipur

  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah laid the foundation for ‘Rani Gaidinliu Tribal Freedom Fighters Museum’ in Manipur on November 22, 2021 through video conferencing.
  • The museum will be set up at Luangkao village in Tamenglong district of Manipur, which is the birthplace of freedom fighter Rani Gaidinliu.
  • The proposed museum is being set up at an estimated cost of Rs 15 crore by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
  • The initiative is part of the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to set up museums in different states to commemorate the contributions of tribal freedom fighters during the freedom struggle against British Rule.
  • In 2016, the Tribal Affairs Ministry had sanctioned setting up of nine museums dedicated to tribal freedom fighters across the country.
  • The sanctioned museums are being built in Rajpipla in Gujarat, Ranchi (Jharkhand), Lambasingi (Andhra Pradesh), Raipur (Chhattisgarh), Kozhikode(Kerala), Chhindwara (Madhya Pradesh), Hyderabad (Telangana), Senapati (Manipur) and Kelsi (Mizoram).
