PM Modi announces establishment of a ‘Startup Bridge’ between India & Italy

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced the establishment of a ‘Startup Bridge’ between India and Italy, during a press meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni at Hyderabad House in New Delhi..
  • India and Italy are celebrating the 75th anniversary of their bilateral relations in 2023.
  • To mark this occasion, the India-Italy partnership will the status of Strategic Partnership.

Panel of PM, LoP and CJI to choose CEC, ECs: Supreme Court

  • A five-judge Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court has ruled that the appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and Election Commissioners (ECs) will now be made by a high-power committee consisting of the Prime Minister, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and the Chief Justice of India.
  • Till now the President of India made the appointment on the advice of the Union Council of Ministers headed by the Prime Minister.
  • The five-judge Constitution Bench was headed by Justice K M Joseph. Other members included Justices Ajay Rastogi, Aniruddha Bose, Hrishikesh Roy and C T Ravikumar.

Nicola Fox named NASA’s first woman ‘Science Chief’

  • National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has named Nicola Fox as the agency’s first female science chief.
  • This will be for the first time that a woman will head science division of NASA.
  • Prior to this, Nicola Fox was the head of NASA’s heliophysics division.

  • Sashidhar Jagdishan, the managing director (MD) and chief executive officer (CEO) of HDFC Bank, has won the Business Standard (BS) Banker of the Year 2022
  •  Sashi Jagdishan took charge of HDFC Bank on October 27, 2020.

BCCI unveil ‘Shakti’ – the mascot of Women’s Premier League 2023

  • The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has unveiled the mascot of the Women’s Premier League 2023.
  • The roaring mascot is named ‘Shakti.’
  • It was unveiled by BCCI Secretary, Jay Shah via Twitter post.
  • The inaugural edition of the Women’s Premier League 2023 will begin on March 04, 2023 at the DY Patil Stadium.
  • There are five teams namely Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore and UP Warriorz.
  • The Final match will be played at the Brabourne Stadium on March 26, 2023.

  • Football player Lionel Messi has won the FIFA Men’s Player of the Year award while Spain’s Alexia Putellas has won the FIFA Women’s Player of the Year award.

Former France football great Just Fontaine passes away at 89

  • Legendary French footballer Just Fontaine, who holds the record for the most goals scored at a single World Cup, has passed away. He was 89.
  • Fontaine scored a record 13 goals at a single World Cup in 1958 in Sweden.

Padma Bhushan award winning former diplomat, Chandrashekhar Dasgupta passes away

  • Former Indian diplomat, Chandrashekhar Dasgupta, has passed away. He was 82.
  • Mr Dasgupta had served as the ambassador to the European Union, Belgium, Luxembourg and China during his almost four-decade-long career.
  • He was the recipient of the third-highest civilian honour, the Padma Bhushan in 2008, for his work in Indian civil service.

World Wildlife Day: 03 March

  • The World Wildlife Day is observed every year on March 3 to celebrate and raise awareness about the world’s wild fauna and flora.
  • Theme 2023: “Partnerships for wildlife conservation”
  • The day was proposed by Thailand and recognised in 2013 by United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
  • March 3 has been chosen as it is the day of signature of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) in 1973.

World Hearing Day : 3 March

  • World Hearing Day is held on 3 March each year by World Health Organisation (WHO) to raise awareness on how to prevent deafness and hearing loss and promote ear and hearing care across the world.
  • Theme of World Hearing Day 2023:  “Ear and hearing care for all!”
