Moody’s India’s GDP growth raised to 5.5% in 2023: Moody’

  • Global rating firm Moody’s Investors Services has projected India’s growth forecast to 5.5 percent in 2023.
  • This is an increase from earlier projection of 4.8 percent in 2022.
  • The growth rate of India is projected to 6.5 percent in 2024.

8th Raisina Dialogue begins in New Delhi

  • The eighth edition of the “Raisina Dialogue”, will be held from March 02-04, 2023.
  • Raisina Dialogue is India’s flagship conference on geopolitics and geoeconomics, organised annually since 2016 in New Delhi.
  • The theme for the 2023 Raisina Dialogue is “Provocation, Uncertainty, Turbulence: Lighthouse in the Tempest?”.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurated the event.
  • Prime Minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloni will be the chief guest as well as the keynote speaker at the inaugural session.
  • The multilateral conference is being organised by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in collaboration with the think-tank Observer Research Foundation (URF).
  • The Raisina Dialogue is one of the leading global conference on international affairs. It brings together leading minds from the global strategic and policy-making community to discuss broader foreign policy and strategic issues facing the world.

IAF and Japan Air Self Defence Force participates in Exercise Shinyuu Maitri 23

  • The Indian Air Force (IAF) and the Japan Air Self Defence Force (JASDF) conducted the Exercise Shinyuu Maitri on 01 and 02 March 2023.
  • This exercise was held on the side-lines of the Indo-Japan Joint Army Exercise named, Dharma Guardian, which took place from 13 February 2023 to 02 March 2023 at Komatsu, Japan.
  • The IAF participated with the one C-17 Globemaster III aircraft in Exercise Shinyuu Maitri 23.

Supreme Court forms experts committee to look into Hindenburg report on Adani Group; Head AM Sapre

  • The Supreme Court has formed a six-member expert committee to examine Hindenburg Research firm’s report on the Adani Group and probe the stock price crash in Adani stocks.
  • The order to set up the committee was passed by a three-judge Bench of Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, Justices P.S. Narasimha and J.B. Pardiwala.
  • The committee with be headed by former Supreme Court judge, AM Sapre.
  • Other members of the panel are OP Bhat, JP Devdhar, KV Kamath, Nandan Nilakeni and adv Somasekhar Sundaresan.
  • The US firm Hindenburg Research has in its report alleged fraud and stock manipulation by the Gautam Adani-led group.
  • This has led to massive slide in Adani Group’s stock prices.

Lieutenant General MV Suchindra Kumar takes over as Vice Chief of the Army Staff

  • Lieutenant General MV Suchindra Kumar took charge as the Vice Chief of the Army Staff on 01 March 2023.
  • He has taken over from Lieutenant General BS Raju.
  • Prior to this, General officer Kumar was Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Strategy) at Army HQ.

Rajesh Malhotra assumes charge as Principal Director-General, PIB

  • Senior Indian Information Service officer Rajesh Malhotra assumed charge as the Principal Director-General of the Press Information Bureau (PIB) on March 01, 2023.
  • Malhotra is a 1989-batch IIS officer. With this appointment, he will also functions as the principal spokesperson of the Government of India.
  • Malhotra succeeds Satyendra Prakash who superannuated on February 28, 2023.

47th Civil Accounts Day celebrated on 01 March 2023

  • The 47th Civil Accounts Day was celebrated on 01 March 2023 to mark the 47th foundation day of Indian Civil Accounts Service (ICAS).
  • The Union Minister of State for Finance, Shri Pankaj Chaudhary, was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
  • The “Civil Accounts Day” is observed every year, since its inception in 1976.

Zero Discrimination Day: 01 March

  • The Zero Discrimination Day (ZDD) is held every year on 1 March.
  • The day aims to ensure right to equality, inclusion and protection of all people without any discrimination in their law and policies to live a full life with dignity regardless of any barriers.
  • ZDD was launched by UNAIDS in 2014.
  • Theme of Zero Discrimination Day 2023:Save lives: Decriminalize.”

World Seagrass Day: 01 March

  • Seagrasses are one of the most widespread marine ecosystems on Earth and covers around 300,000 kmof seabed in 159 countries.
  • To raise awareness about the threats to these ecosystems, the United Nations (UN) has designated 01 March as World Seagrass Day.
  • The theme of first-ever World Seagrass Day is “Healthy seagrass, healthy planet.”
  • Seagrass meadows are often referred to as a type of “blue forest”.
  • They supply food and shelter to thousands of species of fish, seahorses, turtles, and other marine animals, and sustain some of the world’s largest fisheries.

World Civil Defence Day: 01 March

  • The World Civil Defence Day is celebrated every year on March 01, to raise awareness about the critical role of civil defence organisations in safeguarding communities.
  • The day was established by the International Civil Defence Organisation (ICDO) in 1990.
  • The theme for 2023 is, “The role of information technology in risk assessment.”
  • The day highlights and honours the civil defence measures in protecting people and their property from natural disasters, accidents, and other emergencies.
