India scores 74.4/100 in World Bank Index on life cycle of working women

  • India has secured a score of 74.4 out of 100 in a World Bank index on the life cycle of a working woman.
  • The report named World Bank’s Women, Business and the Law 2023 is based on eight indicators and a score of 100 on the Index means that women are on an equal standing with men on each indicator.
  • These 8 indicators are: Mobility; Workplace; Pay; Marriage; Parenthood; Entrepreneurship; Assets and Pension.
  • The index measured a total of 190 economies and only 14 scored a perfect 100.
  • They are Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Latvia, Luxemburg, The Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and Sweden.

President Droupadi Murmu inaugurates 7th International Dharma-Dhamma Conference in Bhopal

  • The President of India, Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the 7th International Dharma Dhamma Conference on March 03, 2023 in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.
  • The 3-day conference is organised by the India Foundation in collaboration with the Sanchi University of Buddhist-Indic Studies.
  • The theme of the conference is ‘Eastern Humanism for the New Era’.
  • The programme aims to bring together religious, political and thought leaders from Dharma-Dhamma traditions to show new path to humanity.

Indian Navy receives first ever privately manufactured indigenised fuze of ASW Rocket

  • On March 04, 2023, India received a fully indigenised fuze YDB-60 for underwater Anti Submarine Warfare (ASW) Rocket RGB-60.
  • This is the first time the Indian Navy has received an underwater ammunition fuze manufactured by a private Indian industry and will provide major boost to AatmaNirbharta in Armament and Ammunition.
  • The fuze YDB-60 has been manufactured by M/s Economic Explosives Limited (EEL), Nagpur.

World Bank approves USD 1 billion loan to India for public healthcare infrastructure

  • The World Bank has signed two complementary loans with India worth USD 500 million each to support and enhance the country’s healthcare infrastructure.
  • The combined USD 1 billion (about 8,200 crore) financing will support India’s flagship Pradhan Mantri-Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM) to improve the public healthcare infrastructure across the country,

Grandmaster D Gukesh conferred with Player of the Year award by Asian Chess Federation 

  • Indian Chess Grandmaster D Gukesh has been honoured with Player of the Year award by the Asian Chess Federation (ACF) on March 01, 2023, at the 5th Annual Asian Chess Excellence Awards, at Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
  • He was awarded for securing the gold medal in the 44th Chess Olympiad at Mahabalipuram in 2022, with a record-breaking score of 9/11.
  • Several other Indian players and the Indian governing body of chess to receive the award in various categories are as follows:
    • Man of the Year – Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, M K Stalin,
    • Most Active Federation – All India Chess Federation (AICF)
    • Best Women’s team of the Year – Indian Women’s team comprising Humpy, Harika, Vaishali, Tania and Bhakti,
    • Coach of the Year – GM R B Ramesh,
    • Women’s Coach of the year – GM Abhijit Kunte,
    • Best Junior Player – GM Leon Luke Medonca,
    • Youth Player of the year – Ilamparthi

Former Chief Justice of India AM Ahmadi passes away at 91

  • Former Chief Justice of India AM Ahmadi has passed away. He was 91.
  • Justice Ahmadi served as the Chief Justice of India from October 25, 1994, till March 24, 1997.

Former Union Minister and ASG Satyabrata Mookherjee passes away

  • Former Union Minister and the West Bengal BJP’s ex-president Satyabrata Mookherjee has passed away following a prolonged illness. He was 90.
  • He served as the Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers from September 2000 to June 2002 and Minister of State for Commerce and Industry from July 2002 to October 2003, in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government.
  • Mookherjee had also served as an Additional Solicitor General of India (ASG).

World Obesity Day: March 04

  • World Obesity Day is observed every year on March 04. It is observed to spread awareness about obesity and encourage action towards its elimination.
  • Theme for World Obesity Day 2023: Changing Perspectives: Let’s Talk About Obesity.

National Safety Day 2022: 04 March

  • The National Safety Day (NSD) is celebrated every year on 4th of March to commemorate the foundation of National Safety Council (NSC) of India.
  • The first National Safety Day was observed in 1972. 
  • The year 2023 marks 52nd NSD.
  • Theme 2023 is ‘Our Aim – Zero Harm’.
  • The day aims to raise public awareness of all safety principles, including road safety, workplace safety, human health safety, and environmental safety.
  • The National Safety Council was set up on 4th March, 1966 by the Ministry of Labour and Employment,  to develop and implement a voluntary routine in the areas of safety, health, and the environment.

National Security Day 2023: 04 March

  • In India, March 4 is celebrated as National Security Day (Rashtriya Suraksha Diwas) every year, in the honor of the Indian Security Forces.
  • The first National Security Day (NSD) was held in 1972.
  • Apart from this, the National Security Week 2023 is being celebrated from March 4 to March 10, 2022.
  • The theme for this year’s celebration is  ‘Nurture young minds – Develop safety culture’.
  • The National Security Day aims to show gratitude to all the security forces, including policemen, para-military forces, commandos, guards, army officers, and other persons involved in security, who sacrifice their life in maintaining the peace and security of the people of the country.
  • It was on this day in 1966 that the National Security Council (NSC) of India was established by the Ministry of Labour, Government of India.
