Punjab Government Launches ‘Mera Kaam Mera Maan’ Scheme to help Unemployed Youth in ‘enhancing Skills’ for Jobs

  • Captain Amarinder Singh led Punjab government has launched a scheme titled ‘Mera Kaam Mera Maan (MKMM)’ to assist unemployed youth in the state and empower them by improving their skillset and aptitude so that they find jobs easily in their preferred domains.
  • Under the scheme, the beneficiaries will be imparted free short-term skill training and an additional employment support allowance of Rs 2500 per month for a period of 12 months from the commencement of the training programme.
  • The scheme has initially been launched as a pilot project and will include only construction workers and their wards in the state.
  • Under the Pilot Project, a target of 30,000 beneficiaries has been proposed at an expense of Rs 90 crore.

Axis Bank ties up with BharatPe for PoS business of Bharat Pe, BharatSwipe

  • Axis Bank has partnered with BharatPe for the point of sale (PoS) business of BharatPe named BharatSwipe.
  • Under the partnership, Axis Bank will be the acquiring bank for BharatSwipe and will provide acceptance of credit and debit cards for merchants associated with BharatPe.
  • The partnership will help BharatPe to expand its merchant acquiring business in India.

SBI unveils floating ATM on houseboats at Dal Lake in Srinagar

  • The State Bank of India (SBI) has opened a floating ATM on Dal Lake in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir.
  • The ATM was inaugurated on August 16, 2021 by SBI Chairman Dinesh Kumar Khara, on a Houseboat.
  • Apart from fulfilling the long-standing needs of locals and tourists, the Houseboat ATM will also be an added attraction to the charm of Srinagar.
  • Prior to this, SBI also installed a floating ATM for the first time on the Kerala Shipping and Inland Navigation Corporation’s Jhankar yacht (KSINC) in 2004, which operated between the Ernakulam and Vapeyan.

NMCG partners SAIARD for ‘Capacity Building on Integrated River Basin Management with a focus on Geospatial Technology in Riverine Ecosystem’

  • The National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) and South Asian Institute for Advanced Research and Development (SAIARD) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to create an academic platform for young students and develop a research and capacity building hub to support regional development in the eastern region.
  • Under this MoU, NMCG and SAIARD will work together to create and enhance capacity building on integrated river basin management, with a focus on geospatial technology in riverine ecosystems.
  • Additionally, SIAIRD will also be considered as the regional capacity building center for NMCG in the eastern region.

India Hosts 8th Meeting of Agricultural Experts of BIMSTEC Countries

  • On August 31, 2021, India hosted the 8th Meeting of Agriculture Experts of Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) Countries through video conferencing.
  • The meeting was chaired by Dr Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary, Department of Agricultural Research & Education & Director General of ICAR.
  • BIMSTEC comprise of seven Member States including five from South Asia (Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka), and two from Southeast Asia, including Myanmar and Thailand.

Ayush Minister Sarbananada Sonowal launches ‘Y-Break’ Yoga protocol app

  • The Union AYUSH Minister Shri Sarbananda Sonowal launched ‘Y Break’ mobile application in New Delhi on September 01, 2021.
  • The Y-Break (or the “Yoga Break) mobile application is a unique five-minute Yoga protocol app, designed especially for working professionals to de-stress, refresh and re-focus at their workplace to increase their productivity, and consists of Asanas, Pranayam and Dhyana.
  • The app has been developed by Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY).
  • While on one hand the app will facilitate doing yoga and meditation with ease anywhere in just 5 minutes, it will also bring awareness about different Yoga practices.
  • The app was launched as a part of the week-long activities and campaigns organised by the Ministry of Ayush to commemorate Azadi ka Amrit Mahaotsav from August 30 to September 5, 2021.

IIT Ropar develop’s world’s first ‘Plant based’ smart air-purifier “Ubreathe Life”

  • Scientists at Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT), Ropar and Kanpur and Faculty of Management Studies of Delhi University have jointly launched a living-plant based air purifier named “Ubreathe Life”, that will boost the air purification process in the indoor spaces, such as hospitals, schools, offices and Homes.
  • Ubreathe Life has been developed by the IIT Ropar incubated startup, Urban Air Laboratory.
  • It is world’s first, state-of-the art ‘Smart Bio-Filter’ that can make breathing fresh. 
  • The Ubreathe Life technology works through air-purifying natural leafy plant. The room air interacts with leaves and goes to the soil-root zone where maximum pollutants are purified.

5th India-Kazakhstan Joint Military Exercise “KAZIND-21” Begins

  • The India-Kazakhstan joint military exercise “KAZIND-21” commenced on September 01, 2021 at Training Node Aisha Bibi, Kazakhstan.
  • KAZIND-21 is the 5th edition of annual bilateral joint exercise between the two armies and will continue till September 10, 2021.
  • 90 soldiers from the Indian Army and 120 troops from Kazakhstan are participating in the exercise to share their expertise and skills in the field of counter terror operations.

Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit gets additional charge of Punjab and Chandigarh

  • Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit has been given the additional charge as Governor of Punjab, in addition to his own duties, by President Ramnath Kovind.
  • Apart from this the President has also appointed him as the Administrator of Chandigarh.
  • Banwarilal Purohit will serve the additional charge until regular arrangements are made.
  • He replaces V P Singh Badnore as the Governor of Punjab and the Administrator of Chandigarh, whose five-year tenure came to an end on August 22, 2021.

  • World Coconut Day is observed on September 02 every year since 2009. 
  • It is observed for promoting this tropical fruit and bringing awareness regarding its health benefits.
  • The theme of World Coconut Day 2021 is ‘Building a Safe Inclusive Resilient and Sustainable Coconut Community Amid COVID-19 Pandemic & Beyond’.
  • The WCD also commemorates the formation of the Asian Pacific Coconut Community (APCC), which aims to promote, coordinate and harmonize all activities of the coconut industry.
