Assam Announces Arundhati Gold Scheme to Give 1 Tola (10 Gm) Gold to EWS Brides

  • The state government of Assam has announced the ‘Arundhati’ scheme to give one ‘tola’ (10 grams) of gold to brides from communities where it is customary to provide gold at the time of the wedding.
  • The cost of the above mentioned gold is around Rs 38,000 (as on date).
  • The state has earmarked Rs 300 crore for the scheme and it will be limited to economically weaker sections, whose annual income is below Rs 5 lakh.
  • Besides, the benefit of the scheme will be available only for the first two live offspring of a family and only in cases where the bride and the groom have both attained the legal age of 18 years and 21 years respectively.

    In addition, the benefit under this scheme can be availed upon formal registration of the marriage under the Special Marriage (Assam) Rules, 1954.
