  • The 29 member NATO states have signed an agreement with Macedonia, allowing the Balkan nation to become the military alliance’s 30th member.
  • Each NATO member will now need to ratify the accession protocol for the formal membership of Macedonia in the US-led alliance.
  • The move followed a deal between Macedonia and NATO-member Greece under which Macedonia agreed to change its name to the Republic of North Macedonia.
  • The pact was signed between Macedonian Foreign Minister Nikola Dimitrov in Brussels on February 6 with NATO representative states.
