Will Internet be down in India in 21 day lockdown?

In a certain section of social media, there has been news that from today 12:00 AM, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced that, the internet services will be blocked in India. The reason being given is to stop the spread of fake news related to COVID-19 (Coronavirus).

Also, people have been believing in this news.

However, we would like to clarify that, PM Modi has not made any such announcement. Hence internet would not be stopped in India during this lockdown period.

Work from Home

Due to lockdown, people are working from home. For this reason internet connectivy is very important.

Dissemination of Infomation by Government

Government needs some meduim to disseminate information regarding COVID-19. Internet is the fastest way for this purpose.

Ordering of necessary items by people

Due to lockdown, people are forced to buy necessary items from online stores like Bigbasket and Grofers. For these applications to run and to help people buy necessary items, internet connection is very much required.

Hence you can be assured that Internet connectivity will not be blocked in India in these days of lockdown.
