UNESCO Designates Mumbai & Hyderabad as Member of UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) On Occasion of World Cities Day

  • UNESCO has designated Mumbai as a member of UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) in the field of Film.
  • Hyderabad has also been included in this network in the field of Gastronomy.
  • Created in 2004, UCCN is a network of cities which are thriving, active centres of cultural activities in their respective countries.
  • The UNESCO Creative Cities Network now has a total of 246 cities.
  • The cities in the list are included based on 7 categories namely:
    • Crafts and Folk Arts
    • Design
    • Film
    • Gastronomy
    • Music
    • Media Arts
    • Literature
  • This list also includes Indian cities like Chennai and Varanasi for music while Jaipur for Crafts and Folk Arts.
