Third Global Ayurveda Summit 2019 Held in Kochi

  • The 3rd edition of the “Global Ayurveda Summit 2019” was held in Kochi, Kerala on 30 & 31 October 2019.
  • The summit was inaugurated by Governor of Kerala, Arif Mohammed Khan.
  • It was organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
  • The theme of the Summit was ‘Mainstreaming Ayurveda through Startups, Innovation and Branding’.
  • Around 400 industry leaders and delegates from SAARC, GCC and African countries participated in the event.

UNESCO Designates Mumbai & Hyderabad as Member of UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) On Occasion of World Cities Day

  • UNESCO has designated Mumbai as a member of UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) in the field of Film.
  • Hyderabad has also been included in this network in the field of Gastronomy.
  • Created in 2004, UCCN is a network of cities which are thriving, active centres of cultural activities in their respective countries.
  • The UNESCO Creative Cities Network now has a total of 246 cities.
  • The cities in the list are included based on 7 categories namely:
    • Crafts and Folk Arts
    • Design
    • Film
    • Gastronomy
    • Music
    • Media Arts
    • Literature
  • This list also includes Indian cities like Chennai and Varanasi for music while Jaipur for Crafts and Folk Arts.

TRAI fixes mobile call ring time at 30 seconds; 60 seconds for landline

  • Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) has fixed phone call ring time at 30 seconds on mobiles and 60 seconds for landline phones in case the call is neither answered nor rejected by the subscriber.
  • Till now there was no such limit for calls within India.

World’s First Blockchain-based Carbon Trading Exchange Launched in Singapore

  • Singapore-based company ‘AirCarbon Pte Ltd’ has launched the world’s first blockchain-based digital aviation carbon trading exchange, named the AirCarbon Exchange.
  • This exchange will serve as a central marketplace for airlines and other corporate buyers to buy as well sell tokens to trade carbon emissions eligible under the International Civil Aviation Organization (“ICAO”)’s Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (“CORSIA”) regime.
  • Company targets AirCarbon Exchange to be fully operational in 2020

Dhanlaxmi Bank MD & CEO T. Latha Resigns

  • Thrissur-based private sector lender Dhanlaxmi Bank managing director (MD) and chief executive officer (CEO) T. Latha has resigned due to personal reasons.
  • Ms Latha was appointed as MD and CEO of Dhanlaxmi Bank in July 2018 for three years following retirement of G Sreeram.

Mary Kom Inducted in IOC’s 2020 Olympics Athlete Ambassadors Group for Boxing

  • Six-time world champion M. C. Mary Kom has been included in a 10-member athlete ambassadors group for boxers by the International Olympic Council’s Boxing Task Force to represent boxers at the Tokyo Olympics 2020.
  • The 36-year-old pugilist will represent the Asian bloc in the group.
  • This group will help the Boxing Task Force (BTF) take into account the athletes’ voice in all areas of its planning for the qualification events and the boxing tournament at Olympics and also engage with the boxingcommunity both in person and digitally

World Vegan Day: November 1

  • World Vegan Day is held every year on November 1 to spread benefits of veganism for humans, non-human animals, and the natural environment.
  • The day was established in 1994 by Louise Wallis, then Chair of The Vegan Society in the United Kingdom, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the organisation and the coining of the terms “vegan” and “veganism”.
