Trump Becomes First Sitting US President to Step Into North Korea

  • On June 30, 2019, President Donald Trump became the first sitting US head to set foot in North Korea.
  • Trump was on a four-day trip to Asia to visit Japan and South Korea. During his visit to South Korea, Trump crossed the military demarcation line between North Korea and South Korea to step over Demilitarised Zone (DMZ) and shook hands with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
  • Mr Trump was accompanied to the DMZ by South Korean Moon Jae-in and even agreed to resume talks on nuclear programs with North Korea.
