Union Minister Pralhad Joshi inaugurates E-portal of accreditation scheme for minerals exploration

  • The Union Minister of Coal, Mines and Parliamentary Affairs Shri Pralhad Joshi inaugurated the E-portal of accreditation scheme for Mineral exploration on November 23, 2021.
  • The portal was inaugurated at the 5th National conclave on Mines and Minerals in New Delhi.
  • The first ever national conclave on Mines and Minerals was held at Raipur in 2016.
  • The minister presented awards to 149 five-star rated mines for sustainable mining practices and all round performance.
  • He also handed over of 52 Geological Survey of India (GSI) approved mine blocks to 15 State Government.

Shimla tops NITI Aayog’s inaugural SDG Urban Index and Dashboard 2021–22

  • NITI Aayog launched the inaugural SDG Urban Index & Dashboard 2021-22 on November 23, 2021 to further strengthen Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) localization and institute robust SDG monitoring at the city level.
  • The SDG Urban Index and Dashboard 2021-22 ranks 56 urban areas on 77 SDG indicators across 46 targets of the SDG framework.
  • Shimla has topped among the 56 urban areas while Dhanbad in Jharkhand is at the bottom.

NASA launches world’s first DART Mission to crash Spacecraft into Asteroid

  • The US space agency NASA has launched a first-of-its-kind mission named DART to change the path of an asteroid by intentionally crashing a spacecraft into it.
  • DART stands for Double Asteroid Redirection Test.
  • The $325 million DART mission was launched into orbit on November 24, 2021 from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California atop a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket.
  • The mission aims to test asteroid-deflecting technology.
  • The purpose of the mission is to crash a space probe into the asteroid so as to alter its speed and course so prevent it from hitting the Earth.

JP Morgan named world’s most systemic bank: FSB

  • JP Morgan Chase has topped the 2021 list of globally systemic banks (G-SIBs) released by the Financial Stability Board (FSB).
  • In total 30 banks have been identified as globally systemic banks (G-SIBs) by FSB. These 30 banks are divided into four “buckets”.

India and ADB sign USD 300 million loan agreement to improve primary health care in India

  • The Government of India and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) have signed loan agreement worth $300 million on November 23, 2021 to strengthen and improve access to comprehensive primary health care in urban areas.
  • The programme will be implemented in urban areas across 13 states.
  • Over 256 million urban dwellers including 51 million from slum areas will benefit from the project.

  • Nobel Prize-winning economist Abhijit Banerjee has come out with his new book titled “Cooking To Save Your Life”.
  • The book has illustrations by France-based Cheyenne Olivier and published by Juggernaut Books.
  • Abhijit Banerjee is a professor of Economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
  • He won the 2019 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences jointly with Esther Duflo and Michael Kemer for their experimental approach to alleviating global poverty.

  • Social Democratic party leader Magdalena Andersson has been elected as the first woman prime minister of Sweden during Parliamentary election on November 24, 2021.
  • She will replace incumbent Prime Minister Stefan Lofven.
  • Magdalena Andersson is the current Finance Minister of the country.
  • She will assume the charge of Prime Minister on November 26, 2021.

Alexander Zverev beat Daniil Medvedev to win his second ATP Finals title

  • In Tennis, Alexander Zverev of Germany beat World No.2 Daniil Medvedev of Russia, 6-4, 6-4, in the men’s single finals to clinch 2021 ATP Finals title on November 21, 2021, held at Turin in Italy.
  • This is Zverev’s second Nitto ATP Finals title, after winning the first in 2018.
  • Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut of France clinched the men’s double title by defeating Rajeev Ram of US and Joe Salisbury of UK.

  • In Cricket, Tamil Nadu has won the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for 2021-22 by defeating Karnataka in the finals by four wickets.
  • The finals was held at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on November 22, 2021.
  • This is the third Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy title for Tamil Nadu.
