Manipur’s Sirarakhong Chilli and Tamenglong Orange gets GI tag

  • Two famous products of Manipur, namely Hathei chilly, commonly known as the Sirarakhong chilly and Tamenglong Orange have received the Geographical Index (GI) tag. 
  • A GI tag is a name given to certain products that have a specific geographical location or origin.
  • With GI, the crop will have global recognition and the marketing of the product will be beyond the national borders.

‘Katley’ declared as state fish of Sikkim

  • The Government of Sikkim has declared ‘Cooper Mahseer’ locally named as ‘Katley’ as the state fish.
  • Neolissochilus hexagonolepis is the scientific name of the Cooper Mahseer.
  • The decision has been taken to highlight the importance of the Katley fish and to give emphasis to its conservation measures.

SpaceX launches first all-civilian crew to orbit under Inspiration4 mission

  • The SpaceX recently launched the world’s first all-civilian crew into the Earth orbit under the mission named Inspiration-4 .
  • A group of four civilians were part of the historic mission, featuring no trained astronauts.
  • The Inspiration4 crew took off to orbit aboard SpaceX`s Falcon 9 rocket from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida on September 16, 2021.
  • The four member crew spent time in orbit in the SpaceX’s Crew Dragon spacecraft, dubbed as Resilience.
  • The three day flight safely re-entered Earth`s atmosphere in the Atlantic off Florida’s coast on September 19, 2021.
  • The four members of the mission were Jared Isaacman (mission commander), Sian Proctor, Hayley Arceneaux, and Chris Sembroski.
  • The Inspiration4 mission was the first private mission conducted by SpaceX to orbit.

LIC Launches Mobile App ‘PRAGATI’ for Development Officers

  • The Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) has launched a new mobile app named ”PRAGATI” for its Development Officers.
  • PRAGATI stands for Performance Review Application, Growth And Trend Indicator.
  • The Pragati app will help the Development Officers to get near real-time information about the performance of their agency force in critical areas of business performance like premium collection, agency activisation, prospective outperformers, etc apart from monitoring their team on activities such as usage of agents mobile app and NACH validation.

Ford Motor to close manufacturing plants in India

  • Ford Motor has announced to close manufacturing plants in India. Ford has two integrated manufacturing facilities in India one at Chennai, Tamil Nadu, and another at Sanand, Gujarat.
  • The manufacturing of vehicles for exports in Sanand, Gujarat will be shut by the fourth quarter of 2021 and vehicle and engine manufacturing in Chennai will be stopped by the second quarter of 2022. Ford had accumulated a loss of more than USD 2 billion over the past 10 years.
  • Ford will now only offer high-end cars via the Completely Built-Up (CBU) Route. Ford has its registered office in India at Chennai. It has 4 regional offices in India. The Ford Motor Company is headquartered at Dearborn, Michigan, United States.

  • Charanjit Singh Channi has been elected as the new Chief Minister of Punjab by the Congress party.
  • This comes after Amarinder Singh resigned as chief minister on September 18, 2021.
  • Charanjit Singh Channi has been elected as the leader of the Punjab Congress Legislative Party (CLP). He is an MLA from the Chamkaur Sahib assembly constituency.

  • The Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh released a book titled Shining Sikh Youth of India’, on September 17, 2021, in New Delhi, as a part of the commemoration of the 400th birth anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur, the ninth Guru of Sikhs.
  • The book has been authored by Dr Prabhleen Singh, administrative officer at the Punjabi University, Patiala.
  • It covers 100 inspirational and motivational success stories of Sikh youth in India who have done exemplary work in their respective fields.

  • Pankaj Advani of India won the Asian Snooker Championship 2021 by defeating Amir Sarkhosh. He won in the best of 11 frames final.
  • Pankaj Advani has won this title for a second consecutive time. He is the winner of the last Asian Snooker Championship held in 2019.
  • In 2019, Pankaj also became the only player who won the titles in all forms of billiards, snooker, 6Reds, and 10Reds competitions.

  • Eminent Odia litterateur, social worker and journalist Manorama Mohapatra passed away at the age of 87 years.
  • She was a former editor of Odia daily ‘The Samaja’.
  • She had won the Sahitya Academy Award in 1984, Soviet Nehru Award in 1988, Critic Circle of India Award in 1990, Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar Samman in 1991 and Rupambara Award in 1994.
