India’s first ‘Grass Conservatory’ inaugurated in Uttarakhand’s Ranikhet

  • India’s first ‘Grass Conservatory’ has been inaugurated in Ranikhet of Almora district in Uttarakhand on November 14, 2021.
  • The Germplasm Conservation Centre” has been built by the research wing of the Uttarakhand Forest Department over an area of 2 acres in three years.
  • The project has been funded under the Centrally sponsored CAMPA (Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority) scheme.
  • Around 90 different grass species have been demonstrated to display their important scientific, ecological, medicinal and cultural information.

India’s first fisheries business incubator launched in Gurugram Haryana

  • The first-of-its kind, dedicated fisheries business incubator has been inaugurated in Gurugram of Haryana to nurture fisheries start-ups under real market-led conditions.
  • The incubator is known as LINAC- NCDC Fisheries Business Incubation Centre (LlFlC).
  • It was inaugurated by Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Shri Parshottam Rupala on November 16, 2021
  • The centre has been established at a cost of Rs. 3.23 crore under the central flagship Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY).
  • The National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) is the implementing agency for the LIFIC.
  • The first batch of ten incubatees from four states (Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat and Maharashtra) have already been identified.

  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated two-days 82nd All India Presiding Officers Conference (AIPOC) on November 17, 2021 in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh through video conferencing.
  • AIPOC is the supreme body of legislatures in India.
  • The year 2021 marks the centennial year of the AIPOC (100th anniversary).
  • The conference was first held in the year 1921 in Shimla.

  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the Rashtra Raksha Samparpan Parv in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh on November 17, 2021.
  • The three day event has been organised by the Ministry of Defence from November 17-19, 2021 as a part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahaotsav’ celebrations.
  • The celebrations will also include the birth anniversary celebrations of Rani Laxmi Bai at Jhansi Fort on November 19, 2021.

World Bank and ADB launches ‘WePOWER India’ to increase women workforce in energy sector

  • The WePOWER India Partnership Forum was held on November 9, 2021 in a virtual format.
  • The event was organised by the World Bank and Asian Development Bank (ADB) in partnership with the India Smart Grid Forum (ISGF).
  • The objective of the forum was to scale up the South Asia Women in Power Sector Professional Network (WePOWER) in India.
  • The event was attended by 168 key energy sector stakeholders.
  • The WePOWER was launched in February 2019 jointly by the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

  • It will be published by HarperCollins India.
  • Vishwanath Pratap Singh served as the PM of India from December 02, 1989 to November 10, 1990.

BCCI President Sourav Ganguly appointed Chairman of ICC Men’s Cricket Committee

  • The President of BCCI, Sourav Ganguly, has been appointed as the Chairman of the ICC Men’s Cricket Committee, during the ICC Board Meeting held on 16 November 2021.
  • Ganguly will replace Anil Kumble who assumed the charge in 2012.
  • Kumble stepped down having served a maximum of three separate three-year terms.

Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur confers SAI Institutional Awards to 246 athletes and coaches

  • Union Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports Shri Anurag Thakur presented the first ever SAI Institutional Awards to 246 athletes and coaches on November 17, 2021 in New Delhi.
  • From the total 246 awardees, 162 athletes and 84 coaches were honoured in the Outstanding Award and Best Award category.
  • The awards have been given for the exceptional performance of the SAI athletes and coaches at national and international competitions from 2016 under the various sports promotion schemes.
  • The inaugural awards have been granted to the deserving candidates for the years of 2016-17, 2017-18, 2018-19 and 2019-20.

  • Janette Brittin of England, Shaun Pollock of South Africa and Mahela Jayawardene of Sri Lanka have been inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame in 2021.
  • To become eligible for induction in the ICC Hall of Fame, a player should have played his last international match at least five years before.
  • Now the total inductees in the list has become 106, which includes 10 women, since the launch of the list in 2009.

Ministry of AYUSH Observes Fourth Naturopathy Day on 18 November 2021

  • The National Naturopathy Day is observed in India on 18 November every year, to promote positive mental and physical health through drugless system of medicine, called as Naturopathy.
  • The day was declared by the Ministry of AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy), Government of India, on November 18, 2018.
  • It was on this day in 1945, when Mahatma Gandhi became life time Chairman of the All India Nature Cure Foundation Trust and signed the deed with the object of making the benefits of Nature Cure available to all classes of people.

  • World Philosophy Day is celebrated on Third Thursday of November each year.
  • In 2021, the day falls on 18 November.
  • It was first celebrated in 2002 by the United Nations.
  • WPD aims to raise public awareness of the importance of philosophy.
  • Philosophy comes from the Greek word phílosophía which means ‘the love of wisdom.’
  • It is the study of the nature of reality and existence, of what is possible to know, and of right and wrong behavior.
