Ministry of Ayush Launches ‘Namaste Yoga’ App

  • The Ministry of Ayush organised a curtain raiser event for the 7th International Day of Yoga on June 11, 2021, virtually.
  • The event was organised by the Ministry of Ayush in association with Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY). 
  • The event brought together several Yoga Gurus and experienced Yoga exponents on the virtual platform along with two ministers namely, Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Shri Prakash Javadekar and Union Minister of State (IC) for Ayush Shri Kiren Rijiju to appeal to the world community to adopt Yoga in their daily life for the betterment of both the individual self and the mankind.
  • The event underlined the importance of the central theme of IDY 2021 “Be With Yoga, Be At Home”
  • As a part of the event, a mobile application devoted to Yoga named as “Namaste Yoga”, was also launched.
  • The Namaste Yoga” app has been designed as an information platform for the public, with the aim to raise awareness about yoga and make it accessible for the larger community.

European Space Agency to Launch ‘EnVision’ Mission to Venus in 2030

  • Following the steps of NASA, the European Space Agency (ESA), is now developing its own probe to study Venus, for holistic view of planet from its inner core to upper atmosphere..
  • The mission dubbed as EnVision, will probably be launched to the planet in the early 2030.
  • EnVision probe of ESA will determine how and why Venus and Earth evolved so differently, even while being in the habitable zone to the Sun. 
  • ESA will undertake this mission with contributions from NASA.
  • EnVision spacecraft will carry a range of instruments to study the planet’s atmosphere and surface, monitor trace gases in the atmosphere and analyse its surface composition. NASA would provide a radar to image and map the surface.

India ties with Russia as 4th largest forex reserves holder

  • As per Reserve Bank of India’s data, the foreign exchange reserves of India has crossed $600 billion mark for the first time.
  • The Forex reserve of India increased by USD 6.842 billion to $605.008 billion in the week ended June 04, 2021. This is the lifetime high of India’s foreign asset.
  • With this, India has tied with Russia as the fourth largest reserve holder in the world.
  • The forex reserve of Russia is calculated to be $605.2 billion.

SBI Launches Kavach Personal Loans for Covid-stressed Customers

  • The State Bank of India (SBI), has launched a new loan product ‘Kavach Personal Loan’ to provide financial relief to its customers who are facing economic crises due to covid related treatment costs.
  • The Kavach Personal Loan is a collateral-free offering, under which a maximum of Rs 5 lakh loan can be availed at an interest rate of 8.5 percent per annum for a period of 5 years.
  • This scheme will also provide reimbursement of expenses, which has already been incurred for Covid related medical expenses.
  • This loan scheme will be under the Covid loan book that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) had asked banks to create to provide relief to individuals and institutions affected due to covid.

DBS Bank Tops 2021 Forbes ‘World’s Best Banks’ List in India

  • DBS Bank has been ranked as the top Bank in India, out of 30 domestic and international banks in the country, in the World’s Best Banks 2021 list for India, released by Forbes magazine.
  • The 2021 World’s Best Banks is the third edition of the list and DBS bank has retained the top spot for the second consecutive year, in the list which is prepared based on customer satisfaction.
  • The CSB Bank stood at the second place, followed by ICICI Bank at third spot.
  • Forbes has partnered with market research firm Statista for this survey.

  • Former Mongolian Prime Minister Ukhnaa Khurelsukh has been elected as the sixth President of the country on June 09, 2021.
  • Khurelsukh won the 2021 Mongolian presidential election with landslide victory,
  • He will assume the charge of the office on 10 July 2021,
  • The 52-year-old will replace Khaltmaagiin Battulga.
  • He is the chairman of the ruling party, the Mongolian People’s Party.

Costa Rican Economist Rebeca Grynspan appointed as Secretary-General of UNCTAD

  • The U.N. General Assembly has approved the appointment of Costa Rican economist Rebecca Grynspan, as the Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). She will serve a four-year term of office.
  • Grynspan is the first woman and Central American to head UNCTAD.
  • She was nominated as Secretary General by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres..
  • Grynspan would replace Isabelle Durant, who is serving as acting Secretary General since 15 February 2021. 
  • Prior to this, Grynspan served as UNDP’s regional director for Latin America and the Caribbean, and second vice president of Costa Rica from 1994 to 1998.
  • UNCTAD is a Geneva-based U.N. agency to promote trade, investment and development opportunities of developing countries and assist them in their efforts to integrate into the world economy on an equitable basis.

1952 Olympics marathoner and 1951 Asiad-medallist Surat Singh Mathur Passes Away at 90 due to Covid-19

  • Indian marathoner Surat Singh Mathur, who was the first participant from independent India to complete the Olympic marathon race at the 1952 Helsinki Games, has passed away. He was 90.
  • Mathur completed the marathon at the 52nd place in 2:58.92s.
  • Apart from this, he is also credited with winning a bronze medal for India at the first Asian Games in 1951.
  • he Delhi-based Mathur was also a two-time National champion.
