Cabinet approves establishment of WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine in Jamnagar, Gujarat

  • The Union Cabinet has approved the establishment of the WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine (WHO GCTM) in Jamnagar, Gujarat.
  • This would be the first and only global Centre for traditional medicine across the globe, set up by the World Health Organization (WHO).
  • The WHO GCTM will be established under the Ministry of AYUSH.

Cabinet approves setting up of National Land Monetization Corporation as a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) for monetization of surplus land

  • The Union Cabinet has approved to set up a new company called National Land Monetization Corporation (NLMC), as a special purpose vehicle (SPV).
  • NLMC will hold and monetise surplus land and building assets, of Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) and other Government agencies, that are being privatised or being shut down.
  • NLMC shall be a wholly-owned Government of India company. It will be set up under the administrative jurisdiction of the Ministry of Finance.
  • The initial authorized share capital of NLMC will be Rs. 5000 crore and paid-up share capital will be Rs. 150 crore.

India’s largest reclining statue of Lord Buddha being built at Bodh Gaya

  • India`s largest reclining statue of Lord Buddha is being built in Bodh Gaya in Bihar.
  • The statue of Lord Buddha is in the sleeping posture. It is being made using fiberglass. The statue will be 100 feet long and 30 feet high.
  • The giant statue is being built by Buddha International Welfare Mission, one of the top Buddhist Temples in West Bengal (also known as Kolkata Temple).
  • Its construction started in the year 2019.
  • Bodh Gaya is the place of enlightenment of Lord Buddha, and famous pilgrimage site for Buddhism, visited by devotees from all over the world.

Sebi raises UPI limit for investing in debt securities to Rs 5 lakh

  • The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has increased the investment limit for retail investors applying in public issues of debt securities with the facility to block funds through Unified Payments Interface (UPI) mechanism from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 5 lakh.
  • Debt securities can include Non-convertible Securities, Securitised Debt Instruments, Security Receipts, Municipal Debt Securities and Commercial Paper.
  • This has been done to bring uniformity in UPI limit allowed in IPO subscription. Earlier NPCI had increased the per transaction limit in UPI from Rs. 2 lakh to Rs. 5 lakh for UPI-based Application Supported by Blocked Amount (ASBA) Initial Public Offer(IPO).

  • ToneTag has partnered with NSDL Payments Bank and NPCI to launch its “VoiceSe UPI payments service” for feature phone users, This comes after the Reserve Bank of India has launched the UPI 123Pay facility that enables UPI payments for feature phone users.
  • ToneTag is a sound-based proximity communication and payments service provider based in Bengaluru, Karnataka.
  • To access the “VoiceSe UPI payments service” feature phone users need to call on the IVRS number 6366 200 200.

HDFC Mutual Fund launches Missed Call Advisory Service #LaxmiForLaxmi for Women Investors

  • HDFC Mutual Fund has launched an end-to-end women-led missed call advisory service #LaxmiForLaxmi on the occasion of International Women’s Day 2022.
  • #LaxmiForLaxmi is a financial empowerment campaign for women under which women investors will be connected to a woman financial expert near them through a missed call service.
  • The woman financial expert will then guide and address queries of woman investors, to better understand concepts such as why and how to invest in a mutual fund, benefits of systematic investment plans (SIPs), etc.
  • Through this initiative HDFC Mutual Fund aims to support women investors in becoming financially independent and make mutual fund investments more accessible to them.

Singapore’s T Raja Kumar appointed as next President of FATF

  • T. Raja Kumar of Singapore has been appointed as the next President of Financial Action Task Force (FATF).
  • He will assume office with effect from July 01, 2022. for a fixed period of two-year term.
  • Mr. Kumar will replace Dr. Marcus Pleyer of Germany.
  • T. Raja Kumar is the current Head of Singapore’s delegation to the FATF since 2015.
  • This will be the first time that Singapore is taking on the Presidency of FATF, since becoming its member in 1992.

Centre approves appointment of Justice DN Patel as chairperson of TDSAT

  • The Union Cabinet has approved the appointment of Delhi High Court Chief Justice DN (Dhirubhai Naranbhai) Patel as the next Chairperson of the Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT), for a period of four years, or until further orders.
  • Justice Patel will retire as Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court on March 12, 2022.
  • He will replace the incumbent TDSAT Chairperson Justice Shiva Kirti Singh.

Indian GM S L Narayanan wins Grandiscacchi Cattolica International Open Chess Tournament

  • In Chess, Indian Grandmaster S L Narayanan was declared the winner in the Grandiscacchi Cattolica International Open, held in Italy on March 08, 2022.
  • Meanwhile his compatriot R Praggnanandhaa came second.
  • The 24-year old S L Narayanan from Thiruvananthapuram, earned the title of Grandmaster in 2015 and is the 41st Grandmaster from India.

Priyanka Nutakki becomes 23rd Woman Grandmaster (WGM) of India

  • Priyanka Nutakki has become India’s 23rd and newest Woman Grandmaster (WGM).
  • The 19-year-old girl hails from Vijayawada, in Andhra Pradesh.
  • Priyanka secured her final WGM-norm at MPL 47th National Women Chess Championship, on March 02, 2022.
  • She secured her first WGM-norm in January 2019.
