Meghalaya Cabinet approves creation of new district named Eastern West Khasi Hills District
- The Meghalaya Cabinet has approved the proposal of creation of a new district called Eastern West Khasi Hills district.
- The new district has been formed by upgrading the Mairang civil sub-division.
- Mairang will now be a sub-division under West Khasi Hills district.
- The new district will be inaugurated on November 10, 2021 by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma.
- This will increase the total number of districts in the state to 12.
International
India-UK Launches Green Grids Initiative One Sun One World One Grid at COP26
- India and the United Kingdom have jointly launched Green Grids Initiative One Sun One World One Grid’ (GGI-OSOWOG) during the World Leaders’ Summit of COP26 on November 02, 2021.
- The GGI-OSOWOG initiative is the first international network of global interconnected solar power grids, so that clean energy can be transmitted to anywhere & anytime.
- The Steering Committee of GGI-OSOWOG have five members, including India, the UK, the US, Australia and France.
- The initiative has been backed by more than 80 Member States of the International Solar Alliance (ISA).
- The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) would develop a solar calculator to inform countries about the solar potential of any place on the earth using satellite data.
- The calculator will help to decide the solar projects’ location and strengthen the `one sun, one world, one grid’ initiative.
Google’s parent company Alphabet launches AI-driven drug discovery start-up Isomorphic Labs
- Google parent company Alphabet has launched a new company in London called Isomorphic Labs.
- The company aims to use AI (artificial intelligence) for drug discovery and medicine to find cures for some of humanity’s most devastating diseases.
- Demis Hassabis will be the CEO of Isomorphic Labs.
- Hassabis is the CEO and co-founder of DeepMind, another Alphabet subsidiary that used AI to predict the 3D structure of a protein directly from its amino acid sequence.
Britain approves worlds first oral pill ‘molnupiravir’ to treat Covid-19
- The health regulators of Britain have approved the world’s first pill to treat cases of symptomatic COVID-19.
- The pill named Lagevrio (molnupiravir) has been approved by Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).
- The molnupiravir pill is safe and effective at reducing the risk of hospitalisation and death in people with mild to moderate COVID-19, who are at increased risk of developing severe disease.

- Bandhan Bank has roped in Indian singer, actor, and composer, Zubeen Garg as its brand ambassador for the Bank in Assam.
- This is the first time ever that Bandhan Bank has on-boarded a brand ambassador.
- AS a part of this collaboration, Zubeen has launched a brand-new music video titled ‘Axom Amar Mone Praane’, which highlights the diverse elements of Assamese culture and heritage.
- The song and video have been produced in collaboration with Bandhan Bank.

Sudha Murty authors “The Sage with Two Horns”
- Renowned Indian author Sudha Murty has come out with her latest book for children titled “The Sage with Two Horns”, revolving around lesser known facts of Indian mythology.
- The new book is the fifth and final in the series of ‘Unusual Tales from mythology’, all of which features tales about kings and queens, gods and goddesses, sages and extraordinary men and women of wisdom.
- The book has been published by Puffin and has illustrations by Priyankar Gupta.
- The other four book in the series are “The Man from the Egg”, “Serpent’s Revenge”, “The Upside-Down King” and “The Daughter from the Wishing Tree”.

- Max Verstappen (Red Bull – Netherlands) has won the 2021 Mexico City Grand Prix held at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City on November 07, 2021.
- Seven-times world champion Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes-Great Britain) stood second while Sergio Perez (Mexico- Red Bull) came third.
Indo-Iranian pair Manu Bhaker and Javad Foroughi wins air pistol mixed team gold in inaugural President’s Cup
- India’s woman pistol star Manu Bhaker and Iranian Olympic champion Javad Foroughi has won the 10m air pistol mixed team gold at the inaugural ISSF President’s Cup on November 05, 2021 at the Wroclaw in Poland.
- The Indo-Iranian pair beat French-Russian duo of Mathilde Lamolle and Artem Chernousov 16-8 to clinch the gold medal.
- A seven-member Indian contingent is participating in the ISSF President’s Cup.
Manika Batra & Archana Kamath clinches women’s doubles title in WTT Contender Table Tennis Tournament
- In Table Tennis, Indian duo Manika Batra and Archana Girish Kamath clinched the women’s doubles title in the WTT Contender tournament on November 07, 2021, in Lasko, Slovenia.
- The Indian pair defeated the Puerto Rican team of Melanie Diaz and Adriana Diaz, 11-3, 11-8, 12-10 to win the title.
- Meanwhile, Manika Batra also claimed a bronze medal in women’s single title after Wang Yidi of China defeated her by 2-4 (11-7, 7-11, 13-11, 10-12, 11-7, 11-5).

National Cancer Awareness Day: 07 November
- Every year on November 7, India observes National Cancer Awareness Day to create awareness about the prevention and early detection of cancer.
- The day was first observed in 2014 and coincides with the birth anniversary of the eminent and renowned scientist Marie Curie.
International Day of Radiology: 08 November
- The International Day of Radiology (IDoR) is held annually on November 8 to promote the role of medical imaging in modern healthcare.
- The day also marks the anniversary of the discovery of x-rays by Wilhelm Roentgen in 1895.
- The theme for 2021 is ‘Interventional Radiology – Active care for the patient’
- World Radiology Day was first celebrated in the year 2012.
World Urbanism Day : 08 November
- The World Urbanism Day, also known as “World Town Planning Day”, is celebrated on 8 November globally, to recognise and promote the role of planning in creating livable communities.
- WUD is organised by the International Society of City and Regional Planners (ISOCARP).
- The day was founded in 1949 by the late Professor Carlos Maria della Paolera of the University of Buenos Aires, to advance public and professional interest in planning.
- World Urbanism Day provides an opportunity to look at planning from a global perspective, in order to draw attention to the environmental impact resulting from the development of cities and territories.

Dronacharya Awardee Eminent Cricket Coach Tarak Sinha passes away at 71
- Eminent Cricket Coach and Dronacharya Awardee Tarak Sinha has passed away after a prolonged illness.
- He was 71.
- Sinha was felicitated with the lifetime Dronacharya Award in 2018.
- Sinha is known for training some of India’s finest cricketers like Manoj Prabhakar, Raman Lamba, Ajay Sharma, Atul Wassan, Surinder Khanna, Sanjiv Sharma, Aakash Chopra, Anjum Chopra, Rumeli Dhar, Ashish Nehra, Shikhar Dhawan and Rishabh Pant.
