TIFR Scientists Develops ‘Black Gold’ That Can Boost Solar Panels and Solve Drinking Water Crisis
- Indian scientists at the Mumbai-based Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) have created a unique material from gold named as ‘black gold’ which can be used for applications ranging from harvesting solar energy to desalinating seawater.
- The scientists did not add any other materials or chemicals to the precious metal, instead, they just rearranged size and gaps of gold nanoparticles to develop a new material that can absorb both light and carbon dioxide.
- Since gold do not have these properties, the newly developed material, which is also black in color, has been named as ‘black gold’.
