Odisha Rasagola Gets GI Tag
- Odisha has finally received the geographical indication tag for its popular dessert rasagola after years of controversy around the sweet.
- The state has received the GI number 612 for ‘Odisha Rasagola’ in the foodstuff category under Section 16(I) or of authorized Section 17(3)(c) of Geographical Indication of Goods (Registration and Protection) Act 1999.
- The tag has been received after a years-long debate between West Bengal and Odisha over where the sweet had originated. West Bengal got the GI tag in 2017.
