India’s Energy Demand Increases 4% in 2018 Vs 2.3% Worldwide: Global Energy and CO2 Status Report 2018
- According to the International Energy Agency (IEA’s) Global Energy & CO2 status report 2018, the primary energy demand in India increased by 4 percent (over 35 million tonne of oil equivalent) in 2018. This accounts for 11 percent of global demand growth.
- Globally, the energy consumption grew by 2.3 percent in 2018 which is nearly twice the average rate of growth since 2010.
- Consequently, the global energy-related CO2 emissions rose up by 1.7% to 33 gigatonnes.
- China, US, and India together accounted for nearly 70 per cent of the rise in energy demand.
