- India has been ranked at 11th in the Climate Change Performance Index 2019. Last year India’s position was 14th.
- However position 1, and 3 were vacant as no country is doing enough to prevent dangerous climate change. The top position is occupied by Sweden i.e 4th position.
- On the basis of standardised criteria, the index evaluates and compares the climate protection performance of 56 countries and the European Union (EU), which are together responsible for more than 90% of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
- The index is published by Germanwatch, the NewClimate Institute and the Climate Action Network.
