India and Netherlands Launches Second Phase of LOTUS-HR for Sewage Water Treatment
- India and Netherlands jointly launched the second phase of the Local Treatment of Urban Sewage streams for Healthy Reuse (LOTUS-HR) program on October 14, 2019 that seeks to treat dirty water of Barapullah Drain in Delhi before it falls into Yamuna.
- Under the Phase II of the project, plans are to treat 10 thousand litres of sewage water per day from the earlier 100 litre/day.
- The LOTUS-HR project, launched in July 2017, is a joint initiative supported by Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India and Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research /STW, Government of Netherlands to produce clean water which can be reused for various purposes.
- It must be noted that the King of the Kingdom of The Netherlands, His Majesty King Willem-Alexander and Her Majesty, Queen Maxima is in India for a five-day state visit from October 13-17, 2019.
