India and Netherlands Launches Second Phase of LOTUS-HR for Sewage Water Treatment

India and Netherlands jointly launched the second phase of the Local Treatment of Urban Sewage streams for Healthy Reuse (LOTUS-HR) program on October 14, 2019 that seeks to treat dirty water of Barapullah Drain in Delhi before it falls into Yamuna.
Under the Phase II of the project, plans are to treat 10 thousand litres of sewage water per day from the earlier 100 litre/day.
The LOTUS-HR project, launched in July 2017, is a joint initiative supported by Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India and Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research /STW, Government of Netherlands to produce clean water which can be reused for various purposes.
It must be noted that the King of the Kingdom of The Netherlands, His Majesty King Willem-Alexander and Her Majesty, Queen Maxima is in India for a five-day state visit from October 13-17, 2019.
