ICC Changes Super Over Rule for all its major Tournaments
- The International Cricket Council (ICC) on October 14, 2019, has announced a change in the super over rule for all its major events.
- Super Over: It is a tie-breaking method used in limited-overs cricket matches when both teams score equal runs, where an additional over of six balls is played by each team to determine the final winner of the match.
- New Rule: As per new Super Over rule, in case of a tie in super over also, there will be a repeated super over until there is a clear winner (means one team has more runs than the other).
- The controversial rule in which the team scoring more boundaries during the entire match was declared the winner in case of a tie in a Super Over has been scrapped under the new rule by ICC.
- The decision follows the 2019 World Cup final between England and New Zealand when England were declared winner against New Zealand on boundary count, as super over also ended in a tie with both teams making 15.
