Defence Ministry approves Army proposal to induct women as jawans; Women to comprise 20 per cent of total Corps

Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman gave a nod for induction of women as jawans in the Army’s Corps of Military Police.
The women will be inducted in graded manner to eventually comprise 20 per cent of total Corps of Military Police of the Army
Till now women were allowed to enter the Army only as officers and that too in select branches.
