Rajasthan’s Kalu Emerges as India’s Best Police Station in 2018 Survey: MHA

  • The Kalu police station in Bikaner district of Rajasthan has been ranked as number 1 police station of India in 2018, as per the internal survey conducted by the Union Home Ministry.
  • The Campbell Bay in Nicobar district has been ranked second while Farakka police station in Murshidabad district of West Bengal is ranked third.
  • The home ministry had started to rank police stations since 2016 following directions from PM Modi at the DGP conference in Kutch, Gujarat, in 2015.
  • The 2018 ranking covered 15.666 police stations based on its performance in crime prevention, investigation and disposal of cases, crime detection, community policing and maintenance of law and order, infrastructure as well as citizens feedback. 

FBAs should have Rs1 crore network and be India-incorporated: RBI

  • The Reserve Bank of India has released the Financial Benchmark Administrators (Reserve Bank) Directions, 2019 for a regulatory framework for financial benchmarks, to improve the governance of the benchmark processes in markets regulated by it.
  • These directions shall apply to Financial Benchmark Administrators (FBAs) administering ‘Significant Benchmarks’ in the markets for financial instruments regulated by the Reserve Bank under Section 45 W of the Act.
  • ‘Financial Benchmark Administrator’ (FBA) means a person who controls the creation, operation and administration of significant benchmark(s). ‘Benchmarks’ mean prices, rates, indices, values or a combination thereof related to financial instruments that are calculated periodically and used as a reference for pricing or valuation of financial instruments or any other financial contract.
  • RBI has mandated that the:
    1. FBA shall be a company incorporated in India.
    2. FBAs shall maintain a minimum net worth of ₹ 1 crore at all times.

India Signs USD 31.58 Million Loan Agreement with World Bank for Uttarakhand Public Financial Management Strengthening Project

  • The Government of India, the Government of Uttarakhand and the World Bank has signed a Loan Agreement of USD 31.58 million on June 25, 2019 for the Uttarakhand Public Financial Management Strengthening Project.
  • The project will help to improve the State’s ability to manage its Financial Systems and enable better utilization of Development Resources.

Loan Agreement worth US$ 400 Million Signed Between India and World Bank to Eliminate Tuberculosis from India

  • The World Bank and the Government of India has signed Loan Agreement of $400 Million to help in treating, controlling and eliminating Tuberculosis (TB) from India.
  • The program will cover nine States of India to support the Government of India’s (GoI) National Strategic Plan to end TB in India by 2025.
  • The International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) has a 19-year maturity including 5-year grace period.

India Inks US$ 250 Million Loan Agreement With World Bank for Rajasthan State Highways Development Project

  • India and World Bank has signed US$ 250 Million Loan Agreement for the Phase II of Rajasthan State Highways Development Project.
  • It will be used to support the construction, upgradation, improvement and maintenance of 766 kms of state highways and major district roads.
  • The loan from International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) has a 25-year maturity including a 5-year grace period.

India Signs USD 328 Million Loan Agreement with World Bank for Improved Health Services in Andhra Pradesh

  • The World Bank has signed a Loan Agreement worth USD 328 Million with the Government of India and Government of Andhra Pradesh on June 27, 2019 to improve the quality and responsiveness of public health services in Andhra Pradesh.
  • The International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) loan has a 23.5-year maturity and includes grace period of 6-year.

YES Bank launches Click OD facility for MSMEs customers

  • Yes Bank has announced the launch of “Click OD” (over draft) facility for the Bank’s existing Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) customers. 
  • Using the facility MSME customers of Yes Bank can avail themselves of unsecured OD of up to Rs. 10 lakh without documentation. This offer is available only for select customers based on their credit history. 
  • For this, the customers have to log in to the MSME portal of Yes Bank.

Working group for revision of WPI formed; Head- Ramesh Chand

  • Government of India has formed a working group for the revision of the current series of Wholesale Price Index (base 2011-12). NITI Aayog Member Ramesh Chand is the Chairman of this Working Group.
  • The working group has 18 members. The Office of Economic Adviser at the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) will be the nodal office of this group and will process the recommendations for further necessary action.
  • The major role of the group is to select the most appropriate base year for the preparation of a new official series of index numbers of Wholesale Price (WPI) and Producer Price Index (PPI). The current series of WPI with 2011-12 as base year was introduced in May 2017.

Sharad Kumar Saraf elected as the President of FIEO

  • Sharad Kumar Saraf has been elected as the President of Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO). He will take charge on June 28, 2019.
  • He will replace renowned exporter Ganesh Kumar Gupta. FIEO is a trade promotion organisation in India, jointly established in 1965 by the Ministry of Commerce of the Government of India and private trade and industry. 

Sarada Kumar Hota appointed as MD of National Housing Bank

  • Sarada Kumar Hota has been appointed as the Managing Director of the National Housing Bank (NHB). Before this, he has served as the managing director of Can Fin Homes, which is a subsidiary of Canara Bank.
  • The post of full-time MD of NHB was lying vacant since Sriram Kalyanaraman’s resignation in August 2018. Since then Dakshita Das, additional secretary in the finance ministry, was holding additional charge of NHB.

A book on GST titled “Adventures of the GST Man”; Author- Srinivas Kotni

    • Author Srinivas Kotni has written a comic book titled “Adventures of the GST Man”.
    • In the book, a fictional superhero named GST man answers questions that one may have on this indirect tax levied by the government on all goods and services.
    • The book has a foreword by former Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley who says many concepts of GST have been “succinctly presented with a tinge of humour”.

Sofia Kenin Wins Mallorca Open to Claim Her Second WTA Singles Title in 2019

  • Sofia Kenin of United States beat Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic to win the Mallorca Open. It was WTA International women’s tennis tournament held in Spain.
  • This is her second WTA singles title of the season.
  • The 20-year-old won her maiden WTA singles title at the Hobart International in January 2019.
  • In women’s double, Kirsten Flipkens and Johanna Larsson beat María Jose Martínez Sanchez and Sara Sorribes Tormo to win the title.

Eminent Gandhian Activist Jharna Dhara Chowdhury Passes Away

  • Eminent social activist, Jharna Dhara Chowdhury, who dedicated her life to non-violence and communal harmony ideologies preached by Mahatma Gandhi, passed away. She was 81.
  • Born in Lakshmipur of Bangladesh, Jharna fled to Assam with her family in 1946 due to communal riots.
  • Because of her efforts, she received numerous awards including the Ekushey Padak in 2005 and Padmashree in 2013, the highest civilian honours in Bangladesh and India respectively.

Former Bengal’s Ranji Cricket Captain Shyam Sundar Mitra Passes Away

  • Shyam Sundar Mitra, the former first-class cricket captain of Bengal passed away. He was 82.
  • Popularly known as SS, Mitra was a top-order Bengal batsman who played 59 first-class matches with overall career runs of 3058 between 1958 to 1971.

Veteran Actress Vijaya Nirmala Passes Away

  • Veteran South Indian film actor and director Vijaya Nirmala passed away. She was 73.
  • Nirmala acted in over 200 films in Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam.
  • The United Nations Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Day is held on June 27 since 2017 to celebrate the work of MSME in local and global economies and their contribution to sustainable development.
  • The theme of 2019 MSME Day is – Big Money for Small Business: Financing the SDGs
