Entire Payment Data Must be Stored in Systems Located Only in India: RBI

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) had issued a directive in April 2018 on ‘Storage of Payment System Data’ advising all system providers to ensure that, within a period of six months, the entire data relating to payment systems operated by them is stored in a system only in India.
  • On June 26, 2019, RBI further clarified certain implementation issues raised by the Payment System Operators (PSOs).
  • It said that all data related to payments must be stored in systems located only in India.
  • RBI has also stated that in case of data processed abroad, the data should be deleted from the systems abroad and brought back to the country within 24 hours from payment processing.
  • It further clarified that there is no bar on processing of payment transactions outside India if so desired by the PSOs. However, the data shall be stored only in India after the processing.

ISTA Congress 2019 Begins in Hyderabad

  • The 32nd Congress of the International Seed Testing Association (ISTA) has been orgainsed in Hyderabad from June 26 to July 3, 2019.
  • It is the first time that the event is taking place in Asia. 
  • Participants from over 80 countries will deliberate on seed policies, production and quality aspects.

Nirmala Sitharaman Among UK’s 100 Most Influential Women List

  • The Houses of Parliament in London launched the ‘100 Most Influential in UK-India Relations: Celebrating Women’ list to mark India Day on June 24, 2019.
  • The newly appointed Finance Minister of India, Nirmala Sitharaman is among the UK’s 100 most influential women for playing significant role in strengthening relations between India and the UK. 

IOA and FIH Head Narinder Batra Elected IOC member

  • Narinder Batra, President of Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has been elected as a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on June 26, 2019 during the IOC Session in Laussane.
  • Batra, who is also the President of International Hockey Federation (FIH), is the only Indian to be elected as the member of IOC with rare distinction of heading a National Olympic Committee as well as an international federation.
  • The number of Indians who are currently active members of IOC will now rise to 2.
  • Other than Batra, Reliance Foundation Chairperson Nita Ambani is the only other member of the IOC who was elected in 2016. She is the first Indian woman to be elected to the prestigious seat.

NITI Aayog’s CEO Amitabh Kant Gets Two-Year Extension

  • The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the extension of tenure of Shri Amitabh Kant, CEO, NITI Aayog, for a further period of two years beyond June 30, 2019.
  • He will now remain on the post till June 30, 2021 on the same terms and conditions, as approved earlier.
  • Mr Kant was appointed as the CEO of the government think-tank on February 17, 2016, for a fixed two-year term.

Centre Appoints Samant Kumar Goel to Head R&AW

  • The government has appointed Samant Goel,as the new Director of India’s external spy agency, the Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW). 
  • He will take charge with effect from June 30 for a fixed tenure of 2 years.
  • Mr Goel is a 1984 batch IPS officer and will replace Anil K Dhamsana at the top post.

Arvind Kumar Appointed Chief of Intelligence Bureau

  • 1984 batch senior IPS officers Arvind Kumar has been appointed as the new Director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) on June 26, 2019, for a fixed tenure of two-year effective from June 30.
  • Kumar will succeed Rajiv Jain as the chief of the India’s internal intelligence agency.

Surendra Ahuja Appointed Head of Boeing Defence India

  • Defence and aerospace major Boeing has appointed former Indian Navy official Surendra Ahuja as the Managing Director of Boeing Defence India (BDI).
  • Ahuja has served as Rear Admiral in the Indian Navy before early retirement in 2018.

Flipkart to Launch its Reward System ‘SuperCoins’ from July 2019

  • The E-commerce firm Flipkart has announced its multi-brand rewards ecosystem named ‘SuperCoins’, which will be rolled out from July 2019.
  • SuperCoins can be earned on all Flipkart transactions and partner services hosted on the Flipkart App.
  • These rewards can be redeemed by not only shopping on Flipkart, but also across more than 100 partner brands of Flipkart such as Zomato, OYO, UrbanClap, PhonePe and MakeMyTrip.

IOC Strips Olympic Status From World Boxing Body AIBA

  • The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has officially taken away the Olympic status from the world boxing governing body AIBA on June 26, 2019 following allegations of fraud and serious reputational, legal and financial crisis among the ruling authority.
  • Now AIBA will have no right to run the event at Tokyo 2020 Games. The IOC will instead organise boxing in AIBA’s place.
  • The International Boxing Association (AIBA) is the first federation to have been stripped of its right to organise its own sport at an Olympics.

Day of the Seafarer: June 25

  • The Day of the Seafarer is held on every 25 June since 2011. 
  • The day was proposed by International Maritime Organization (IMO) in 2010 to celebrate the contribution of seafarer to the world economy and the civil society.
  • The theme for the 2019 Day of the Seafarer is “I am onboard with gender equality’.

International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking: June 26

  • The United Nations recognized International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking is observed annually on 26 June, since 1989 to fight against drug abuse and the illegal drug trade.
  • The theme for 2019 is Health for Justice. Justice for Health
