RBI launches Complaint Management System (CMS) for grievance redressal

  • The Reserve Bank of India has launched a Complaint Management System (CMS) [https://cms.rbi.org.into improve customer experience in grievance redressal process by ensuring timely resolution of complaints received at the Reserve Bank.
  • Users can lodge complain against any entity that is regulated by RBI i.e Banks and NBFCs.
  • The complaint would be directed to the appropriate Office of the Ombudsman/Regional Office of the RBI. The application also improves transparency by keeping the complainants informed through auto-generated acknowledgments and enabling them to track the status of their complaints and file Appeals online against the decisions of the Ombudsmen, where applicable.
  • With the launch of CMS, the processing of complaints received in the offices of Ombudsman and Consumer Education and Protection Cells (CEPCs) of the Reserve Bank has been digitalized.

SBI creates two new group to focus on credit-light sectors

  • State Bank of India (SBI) has formed a separate group within its Corporate Accounts Group (CAG) to cater to the non-fund-based requirements of clients in credit-light sectors like pharmaceuticals, fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) and information technology (IT).
  • One is credit-light group (CLG) and the other is Financial and Institutional Group (FIG)
  • The credit-light group (CLG) will focus on generating non-interest income comprising letter of credit/bank guarantee commission, cash management charges, exchange income from forex activities, cross-selling commission, remittances, and collections, among others. It is also responsible for garnering low-cost deposits.
  • The Financial and Institutional Group (FIG) will address credit and transactional banking needs of insurance companies, broking firms, banks (private and foreign), and mutual funds has also been created within the CAG.

Japan Gifts Museum of Peace to Manipur in Memory of Second World War

  • Japan has gifted a war museum called Imphal Peace Museum to Manipur on June 22, 2019 located at Red Hill, 20 km south west of Imphal.
  • The museum has been inaugurated to mark the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Imphal.
  • The Battle of Imphal is regarded as one of the fiercest battles of World War II in which about 70,000 Japanese soldiers along with the Indian National Army, died in battles with the British-led Allied forces in areas around Imphal and Kohima from March to June 1944. 

World Bank approves USD 147 Million Loan for Jharkhand Municipal Development Project

  • World Bank has signed $147 Million Loan Agreement with the Government of India and the Government of Jharkhand for Jharkhand Municipal Development Project.
  • The project will provide basic urban services to the people of Jharkhand and help improve the management capacity of the urban local bodies (ULBs) in the State.

RBI Deputy Governor Dr. Viral V. Acharya submits resignation

  • The deputy governor of Reserve Bank of India, Dr. Viral V. Acharya has resigned from his post. He is the youngest deputy governor of RBI. His term was about to end on January 20, 2019
  • Reserve Bank of India has said that Dr. Viral V. Acharya has submitted a letter to the RBI informing that due to unavoidable personal circumstances, he is unable to continue his term as a Deputy Governor of the RBI beyond July 23, 2019.
  • RBI can have four deputy governors. Presently there were all four DGs  BP Kanungo, N. S. Vishwanathan, Viral Acharya and Mahesh Kumar Jain. 

Prithviraj Kothari appointed National President of Indian Bullion and Jewellers Association Ltd

  • Prithviraj Kothari has been appointed as National President of  India Bullion And Jewellers Association. He has replaced Mohit Bharatiya.
  • India Bullion and Jewellers Association is India’s oldest and apex association. 

Saudi Arabia Becomes First Arab Nation to Get FATF Membership

  • Saudi Arabia has become the first Arab country to be granted full membership of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).
  • The decision was taken during the group’s annual general meeting in the United States on June 21.
  • With the induction of Saudi Arabia as FATF member, the number of permanent members in the group is now 39.

Feliciano Lopez wins Queen’s Tennis Title

  • Spanish Tennis player Feliciano Lopez has won the men’s single Queen’s Club Championships. He defeated Gilles Simon.
  • In the men’s double, Andy Murray and Feliciano Lopez defeated Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury to win the men’s double Queen’s Club Championships
