Om Birla Represents India at 6th G20 Parliamentary Speakers’ Summit in Tokyo, Japan

  • The Sixth G20 Parliamentary Speakers’ Summit was held in TokyoJapan from November 3-5, 2019.
  • The Indian delegation was led by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.
  • The G20 Parliamentary summit is also known as P20 Speaker’s Summit.
  • The P20 was organised by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), along with House of Councillors of National Diet of Japan.
  • The G20 is made up of 19 countries and the European Union. The 19 countries are Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, the Republic of Korea, South Africa, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, the United Kingdom and the United States of America.

‘No Money For Terror’ Meet to be held in India in 2020

  • India will be the host nation for the ‘No Money For Terror’ Conference to be held in 2020.
  • This announcement was made by the Minister of State for Home Affairs, G Kishan Reddy, at the ongoing 2nd ‘No Money For Terror’ Conference in Melbourne from November 6 to 8, 2019.
  • Reddy is heading a high-powered five-member Indian delegation, along with Director-General of the National Investigation Agency Y.C. Modi at the meet.
  • The ‘No Money For Terror’ conference is organised by Financial Intelligence Units (FIUs) of over 100 countries, jointly known as The Egmont Group.

Khadi gets separate unique HS code

  • The ministry of commerce and industries has allocated a separate Harmonized System(HS) code to Khadi fabrics.
  • HS Stands for Harmonized System and it is a six digit identification code. It was developed by the WCO (World Customs Organization- HQ- Brussels, Belgium) and custom officers use HS Code to clear every commodity that enters or crosses any international border.
  • Before: Earlier, Khadi did not have its exclusive HS code. As a result, all the data regarding export of this signature fabric used to come as a normal fabric under the textile head. As a result it was not possible to keep a track on exact export figures of Khadi Fabrics.
  • Now: Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) can now keep a track of export figures and plan the export strategies for Khadi products.

Maharashtra Top state in delivering justice to its citizens: Report

  • Maharashtra has been ranked first among 18 large states in the first ever ranking of states on their capacity to deliver justice to citizens.
  • The ‘India Justice Report (IJR) 2019’ was published by the Tata Trusts in collaboration with Centre for Social Justice, Common Cause, Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative, DAKSH, TISS-Prayas Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy.
  • Maharashtra was followed by Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Punjab and Haryana in the index.
  • Among the seven small states (population less than one crore each), Goa topped the list followed by Sikkim and Himachal Pradesh.
  • The India Justice Report is based on four pillars to rank the states on the basis of justice delivery namely police, judiciary, prisons and legal aid.

8 Indian companies named in Fintech 100 list; PayTm top India (05); Ant Financial overall top

  • Eight Indian firms have been named in the KPMG and H2 Ventures’ ‘Fintech100’ list with two firms in top 10. PayTm is ranked 5th while Ola is ranked 8th.
  • Ant Fi­nan­cial (China) is on rank one in the list. This report compiles a list of the best fintech innovators from around the world.
  • Apart from this, Policybazaar is ranked on 21, Lendingkart on 23.

GRSE Delivers fast patrol vessel ‘ICGS Annie Besant’ to Indian Coast Guard

  • The Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd (GRSE) delivered ‘ ICGS Annie Besant’, second in the series of five fast patrol vessels (FPV) to the Indian Coast Guard.
  • The FPV is a medium range surface vessel with a length of 50 m, width of 7.5 m and displacement of around 308 T. These powerful, fuel-efficient platforms are designed to perform multipurpose operations like patrolling, anti-smuggling, anti-poaching and rescue operations.
  • GRSE is a Miniratna Category 1 and a leading warship building company in the country under the administrative control of the Ministry of Defence. Its headquarter is based at Kolkata, West Bengal.

Rajasthan Patrika group chairman Gulab Kothari Selected for Raja Ram Mohan Roy Award for Journalism by PCI

  • The Press Council of India (PCI) presented its National Awards For Excellence in Journalism, 2019 on November 6, 2019.
  • The prestigious Raja Ram Mohan Roy award will be presented to Rajasthan Patrika group chairman Gulab Kothari for his outstanding contribution towards journalism.
  • The award will be presented to Kothari on November 16 on the occasion of the National Press Day

Former Maharashtra Minister Dhabekar Passes Away at 89

  • Former Maharashtra minister Babasaheb Dhabekar passed away at the age of 89 after prolonged illness.
  • The Congress leader had served as the water resources minister when the Shiv Sena-BJP alliance government was in power in the 90s.

The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approve several Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and proposals. They are listed below:

List of MoUs Approved

  1. India and Paraguay – Strengthening Cooperation in the field of Tourism.
  2. India and Brazil – Strengthening Cooperation in the field of Health and Medicine and also signing of the Protocol to amend the Convention for the avoidance of double taxation and the prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to taxes on income.
  3. India and Switzerland – Technical Cooperation in the field of Climate Change and Environment.
  4. India and Guinea – Cooperation in the field of Renewable Energy
  5. India and Maldives – Training and Capacity-Building Programme for Maldivian Judicial Officers in India.
  6. India and German – collaboration in the field of Occupational Diseases, Re-habilitation and vocational training of Insured Persons with disabilities
  7. India and Bangladesh – Withdrawal of 1.82 cusec of water from Feni River by India for drinking water supply scheme for Sabroom town Tripura, India.

Other approvals

  • Establishment of a ‘Special Window’ fund to provide priority debt financing for the completion of stalled housing projects that are in the Affordable and Middle-Income Housing sector. The government shall act as the Sponsor and the total commitment to be infused by the Government would be upto INR 10,000 crore.
  • Approved the Cadre Review of Posts & Telegraphs Building Works Service, Group ‘A’. The number of Duty posts was fixed as 105.
