President Kovind Inaugurates 13th Edition Of CII Agro Tech India – 2018 in Chandigarh

  • The President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind, inaugurated the 13th edition of CII Agro Tech India-2018 on December 1, 2018 in Chandigarh.
  • The four-day International Agro Technology and Business Fair has been organised by Confederation of Indian Industries. 
  • The theme for this year is ‘Technology in Agriculture: Increasing Farmer’s Income.
  • The India’s biennial fair has Great Britain as the partner country while focus countries are Canada and China.

“2nd Russia-India-China ‘RIC’ Trilateral Summit held after 12 years; in Argentina

  • India, Russia, China held a trilateral meeting, the second among the three countries after a gap of 12 years, on the sidelines of the G-20 summit in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
  • “2nd Russia-India-China ‘RIC’ Trilateral Summit took place in Buenos Aires and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chinese premier Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin were the part of it.

Annual DGP conference to be held at Statue of Unity on Dec 20

  • The annual conference of state Director Generals of Police (DGPs) will be held at the convention facilities at the Statue of Unity in Narmada district of Gujarat.
  • The 3 day conference will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 20, 2018.

“Global Aviation Summit 2019” to be held in Mumbai in January 2019

  • The Global Aviation Summit 2019 will be held on 15-16 January, 2019 in the financial capital of India, Mumbai. 
  • The theme for the Summit will be “Flying for all – especially for the next 6 billion”
  • The Summit is organised by the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India and the Airport Authority of India (AAI) in collaboration with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI). The event is supported by ICAO, IATA, ACI and CANSO.

U C Dhyani to head the committee to oversee rejuvenation work of the Ganga river

  • The National Green Tribunal has appointed former Uttarakhand High Court judge, Justice U C Dhyani, as head of the three-member committee to oversee rejuvenation work of the Ganga river.
  • Earlier Justice Arun Tandon was appointed as the head of the panel which was set up on August 6. However as he would be busy with the upcoming Kumbh event at Allahabad, he has been replaced by Justice UC Dhyani.

SEBI increases trading hours in commodity derivatives segment

  • Markets regulator SEBI has decided to increase the trading time in the commodity segment by an hour to deepen the commodity derivatives market as well as enhance the participation of stakeholders.
    • For non-agricultural commodities: From 9 am to 11.55 pm,
    • For agricultural and agri-processed commodities: From 9 am to 9 pm.
  • These timing will come into effect from December 30, 2018.

Indian Economy likely to grow at 7-7.4 per cent in FY19: NCAER

  • According to a report by the policy think tank National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER), Indian economy is projected to grow at 7 – 7.4 percent in the current fiscal (2018-19).

Shri Rajnath Singh inaugurates 19th Hornbill Festival in Nagaland

  • The Union Home Minister Shri Rajnath Singh inaugurated the popular Hornbill Festival 2018 of Nagaland in Kohima, Nagaland. (This was the 19th edition)
  • The inauguration day i.e Decmeber 01, 2018 coincided with the Formation Day of Nagaland. This was the 56th Anniversary of the State.
  • The annual Hornbill Festival is a spectacular event showcasing the rich ancient culture and civilization of the people of Nagaland.

Manipur Sangai Festival-2018 Concludes at Keibul Lamjao

  • Every year the State of Manipur celebrates the “Manipur Sangai Festival” from 21st to 30th November at Keibul Lamjao.
  • The ‘Festival’ is named after the State animal, Sangai, the brow-antlered deer found only in Manipur at Keibul Lamjao National Park.
  • The festival was jointly organised by the Forest Department and Tourism Department.

India’s First Owl Festival held in Pune

  • The Indian Owl Festival, the country’s first owl fest, was held at Pingori village in Purandar taluka of Pune from November 29.
  • The two-day festival was organised by Ela Foundation, an NGO working towards nature education and conservation.
  • The first-of-its-kind festival in the country was organised with the intention of creating awareness about owl as a bird and debunking numerous superstitions associated with it.

Two Indian Navy Pilots Win ‘Asian of The Year’ for Kerala Flood Rescue

  • An Indian Navy Commander and a Captain (both helicopter pilots) were conferred with the prestigious Asian of Year award for 2018 by The Straits Times, a well-known Singapore daily.
  • The Indian Navy Commander (Pilot) Vijay Varma and Captain (Pilot) P Rajkumar were presented the award for their heroic service and death-defying rescue operations during the devastating floods in Kerala.

Abhinav Bindra Becomes First Indian to Win ISSF’s Blue Cross, Shooting’s Highest Honour

  • Indian shooter Abhinav Bindra has been conferred with Blue Cross, the highest honour of International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF). 
  • He has been conferred the sport’s highest honour for his outstanding services as the chairman of the International Shooting Sport Federation’s Athletes Committee. He is also India’s lone individual Olympic gold medallist.
  • National Rifle Association of India president President Raninder Singh was awarded the ISSF diploma of honour gold medal at the general assembly.

Raninder Singh becomes first Indian to be elected as vice-president of the International Shooting Sport Federation

  • Raninder Singh has become the first Indian to be elected one of the four vice-presidents of the International Shooting Sport Federation.
  • Raninder Singh is also the head of the National Rifle Association of India.
  • The other three elected Vice Presidents of International Shooting Sport Federation are: Kevin Kilty of Ireland; USA’s Robert Mitchell and China’s Wang Yifu.

Armed Forces Week Being Celebrated from Dec 1 to Dec 7

  • The Armed Forces Week 2018 celebrations began on December 1, 2018 and will conclude on 7th of this month.
  • India marks the Armed Forces Flag Day on 7th December every year and this year it will be the 70th Armed Forces Flag Day. 
  • The ‘Armed forces Flag Day Fund’ (AFFDF) has been constituted by the Government of India for the welfare and rehabilitation of the Ex-Servicemen (ESM) community.

Border Security Force (BSF) Celebrates its 54th Raising Day on December 1

  • The Border Security Force (BSF) was formed on December 1, 1965 as a unified central agency, after the Indo-Pak and India-China wars for ensuring the security of the borders of India and for matters connected there with. 
  • It is one of the five Central Armed Police Forces of the Union of India and stands as the world’s largest border guarding force.
  • BSF has been termed as the First Line of Defence of Indian Territories.

Ex-US President George H.W. Bush passed away at 94

  • Ex President of the US George H.W. Bush passed away at the age of 94. 
  • He was the 41st President of the United States from 1989 to 1993. Bush served as the 43rd Vice President of the United States from 1981 to 1989.
  • The former President was suffering from a form of Parkinson’s disease that left him on a wheelchair over the last few years.
