Assam govt signs Rs 400 cr pact with AFD to restore forest ecosystems
- The French Development Agency (AFD) and the Government of Assam has signed a 50 million euro (Rs 400 crore) project agreement for supporting Phase II of Assam Project for Forest and Biodiversity Conservation (APFBC).
- The total budget of the second phase is Rs 500 crore out of which the State government will contribute Rs 100 crore.
- The project was launched in response to the threats posed by deforestation, poaching and over-dependence of local communities on forest resources. It aims to restore Assam’s forest ecosystems and preserve their biodiversity.
