Overview of PM Modi’s Two Day State Visit to South Korea

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi was on two days visit to South Korea on February 21 and February 22, 2019 to strengthen the special strategic partnership between the two nations and enhance bilateral trade and cultural ties.
  • This was the second visit of PM Modi to the Asian nation after his first state visit in May 2015.

Overview

  • During the visit, PM addressed the Indian Community in Korea.
  • He also unveiled the bust of Mahatma Gandhi Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea, to mark 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
  • PM launched the India-Korea Startup Hub while addressing the India Korea Business Symposium.
  • PM Modi also held delegation level talks with South Korean President
  • PM was also conferred with the Seoul Peace Prize 2018
  • The two nations inked 6 agreements

PM Modi Conferred with Seoul Peace Prize 2018

  • The Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, was awarded the prestigious Seoul Peace Prize 2018 in recognition of his efforts in promoting global peace & harmony through inclusive economic growth & improving quality of life.
  • The award was presented to him by the Seoul Peace Prize Foundation, which he dedicated to the 1.5 billion people of India. He is the 14th recipient of the award
  • The Seoul Peace Prize was established in 1990 to commemorate the success of the 24th Olympic Games held in Seoul.

Home Minister Inaugurates “Waste to Wonder” Park in South Delhi

  • The Union Home Minister Shri Rajnath Singh inaugurated first of its kind “Waste to Wonder” Park in New Delhi under the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC).
  • The SDMC has made this park by creating replicas of the ‘Seven Wonders of the World’ using scrap of automobile parts and other metal waste like fans, rods etc.
  • In all 150 ton scrap/waste has been used to create the park in 180 days at the total cost of Rs 7.5 crore.
  • Equipped with solar panels, solar trees and a windmill, the park is self-sustainable.
  • The Minister termed the park as creation of ‘Wealth from waste’.

Jharkhand government launches Sweet Revolution scheme (Meethi Kranti Yojana) worth Rs 100 crore

  • Chief Minster of Jharkhand, Shri Raghubar Das on February 21, 2019 launched the first phase of Sweet Revolution Scheme (Meethi Kranti Yojana).
  • Under the scheme 1,207 farmers will be given training along with unit worth Rs 1 lakh for bee keeping.
  • Out of this Rs 1 lakh, Rs. 80,000 will be given as a grant where as farmers needs to invest Rs. 20,000. The outlay of the project is Rs 100 crore.
  • Under this scheme the farmers can start bee keeping & selling honey as a side business.

China Unveils World’s First Female AI News Anchor

  • China’s state-run news agency, Xinhua has unveiled the world’s first female AI news anchor “Xin Xiaomeng” in collaboration with search engine Sogou.
  • Earlier, Xinhua created the world’s first male AI news anchor, Qiu Hao, which debuted during China’s annual World Internet Conference held in November 2018.

  • World Thinking Day, originally known as Thinking Day, is celebrated annually on 22 February by all Girl Guides and Girl Scouts worldwide.
  • The day is observed to think about fellow brothers and sisters around the world, address their concerns and understand the true meaning of guiding.
