  • Every year on September 16, we observe the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer, also known as World Ozone Day, to phase out the use of the substances that harm or deplete the ozone layer.
  • 2019 Ozone Day theme: 32 years and healing
  • The day was designated by the United Nations General Assembly on December 19, 2000, to commemorate the date for signing the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer in 1987.
  • The Montreal Protocol was signed to protect the Ozone layer by reducing the production of substances that are supposed to be responsible for Ozone layer depletion.
