Uttarakhand Government launches ‘Mukhya Mantri Saur Swarojgar Yojana’ to generate self-employment for youth & migrants through green energy

  • Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has launched a scheme called Mukhya Mantri Saur Swarojgar Yojana.
  • What? The scheme aims at creating self-employment for nearly 10,000 youths and migrants of the states in the green energy sector.
  • How? The state government will allocate solar plants of 25 kilowatts (kw) each to the targeted beneficiaries, including the youth and migrants who have returned home after leaving their jobs in various parts of the country following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • The Cooperative banks will grant loans at an interest rate of 8% per year for 15 years to set up these solar plants on private land or on land taken on lease.
  • Benefit? Each plant will generate 38,000 units of electricity per annum and will be bought by Uttarakhand Power Corporation Ltd for 25 years.
  • The initiative will promote the production of green energy as well as provide self-employment opportunities to the youth of the State.
  • The same land can also be used for growing fruits, vegetables and herbs, fow which seeds of climate-based medicinal and spongy plants will be provided free of cost.
