Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla gets One-year extension

Centre has approved the extension of the tenure of Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla for another one-year, beyond the present tenure.
Bhalla, a 1984 batch IAS officer of Assam-Meghalaya cadre, was to retire on August 22, 2021.
This is the second extension given to Mr. Bhalla.
Earlier he was appointed as Home Secretary for the first time on 22 August, 2019, and was scheduled to retire in November 2020 after completing 60 years of superannuation.
However he was given an extension, beyond the date of his superannuation, up to August 22, 2021.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved extension in service to Bhalla as Home Secretary, in relaxation of FR 56 (d) and Rule 16 (1A) of the All India Services (Death-cum-retirement benefits) Rules, 1958
