Union Food Processing Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal Quits; Narendra Singh Tomar takes additional charge

The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal, who was serving as the Union Minister in the Ministry of Food Processing Industries has announced her resignation from the Union Council of Ministers with immediate effect on 18 September 2020.
President Ram Nath Kovind has accepted her resignation as well as directed Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar to take additional charge of the Ministry of Food Processing Industries.
As per the details, Badal resigned in protest against Centre’s anti-farmer ordinances and legislation, which have triggered farmers’ protests across Punjab and Haryana.
Lok Sabha has passed The Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020 and the Farmers’ (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill 2020.
Narendra Singh Tomar also holds the portfolio of Minister of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare and Minister of Rural Development
