- According to a recent survey conducted by the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO), Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, India’s unemployment rate stood 45-year-high of 6.1 percent in 2017-18.
- The periodic labour force survey (PLFS) of NSSO was conducted between July 2017-June 2018.
- This rate of unemployment is highest since 1972-73.
- As per the report, the unemployment was higher in urban areas (7.8%) as compared to 5.3% in rural areas of the country.
- The report is yet to be made public.
