National

PM-KISAN completes three years of implementation; Rs 1.82 lakh crore transferred in farmers accounts through DBT

  • The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) Scheme celebrated its third anniversary on February 24, 2022.
  • The central sector scheme was launched on February 24, 2019  to provide income support to all landholding farmers and their families.
  • As on February 22, 2022, the scheme has provided benefits to about 11.78 Crore farmers and funds amounting to Rs 1.82 lakh crore in various installments have been released to the eligible beneficiaries.
  • Out of this, Rs. 1.29 lakh crore has been released during the ongoing Covid 19 pandemic period.

Culture Minister G. Kishan Reddy inaugurates Conference on Indian temple architecture ‘Devayatanam’ at Hampi

  • Union Minister of Culture, G Kishan Reddy, inaugurated Devayatanam, a one-of-a-kind odyssey (conference) of temple architecture of India, at Hampi, Karnataka, on February 25, 2022.
  • The Devayatanam is a two-day international conference organized by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) of the Ministry of Culture, on February 25-26, 2022.
  • The main aim of the conference is to highlight the architectures of Indian temples. 

Defence Exercise

Indian Navy’s multilateral exercise Milan-2022 begins in Visakhapatnam 

  • Indian Navy’s multilateral exercise MILAN 2022 kicked off on February 25, 2022 in  Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.  
  • The theme of the MILAN 2022 exercise is ‘Camaraderie – Cohesion – Collaboration’
  • MILAN 22 will be conducted in two phases over a duration of 9 days. These include:
    1. Harbour phase – from 25 to 28 February
    2. Sea Phase – from 01 to 04 March
  • More than 40 countries are participating in the exercise, which is larger in ‘scope and complexity’ than all previous editions.

Third India-Japan joint exercise ‘EX DHARMA GUARDIAN-2022’  to be held at Belagavi from Feb 27

  • The third edition of the joint military exercise “EX DHARMA GUARDIAN-2022” between India and Japan will be conducted from 27 February to 10 March 2022at Belagavi (Belgaum), Karnataka.
  • The 15th Battalion the Maratha Light Infantry Regiment of the Indian Army and 30th Infantry Regiment of Japanese Ground Self Defence Forces (JGSDF) are participating in this 12 days long joint exercise.
  • The exercise aims at enhancing the inter-operability and foster mutual understanding between the two Armies.

Brickworks Ratings lowers India’s GDP to 8.3% in FY22

  • Brickworks Ratings has revised downwards India’s GDP growth forecast to 8.3 percent in the current fiscal 2021-22 (FY22).
  • Earlier in January 2022, the rating agency had estimated this between 8.5-9 percent.

Union Bank launches ‘Union MSMERuPay Credit Card’

  • The Union Bank of India has launched ‘Union MSME RuPay Credit Card’ in association with National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). 
  • It is a first of its kind initiative in the industry, to provide simplified and digital delivery of Finance to Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), to meet their business-related operational expenses.
  • The dedicated card for MSMEs will be available to eligible borrowers of Union Bank of India.

India ranks 43 in 2022 International IP Index: Top- USA

  • India has been ranked at 43rd place in the 2022 International Intellectual property (IP) Index released by the Global Innovation Policy Center of U.S. Chamber of Commerce. US has topped the ranking in which 55 countries have been ranked.
  • The top five countries in the ranking are:
    • Rank 1- United States
    • Rank 2- United Kingdom
    • Rank 3- Germany
    • Rank 4- Sweden
    • Rank 5- France

Business

Bharti Airtel to acquire 4.7% stake of Vodafone in Indus Towers

  • Telecom operator Bharti Airtel Ltd has entered into an agreement with Vodafone Group Plc to buy 4.7% equity interest in Indus Towers Ltd., India’s largest mobile tower installation company.
  • The partnership is in line with Vodafone’s plan to sell its entire 28.1% stake in Indus Towers.
  • The principal condition of this deal is that the proceeds of the deal shall be inducted by Vodafone as fresh equity in Vodafone Idea Limited (VIL) and simultaneously remitted to Indus Towers to clear VIL’s outstanding dues.
  • The deal value has not been disclosed by Airtel.

Dish TV ropes in Rishabh Pant as brand ambassador

  • Dish TV India Limited has roped in cricketer Rishabh Pant as the brand ambassador for its direct-to-home (DTH) brand D2H.
  • Pant will feature in 360-degree brand communication for D2H for the next two years.

Mirabai Chanu wins gold at Singapore Weightlifting International to qualify for Commonwealth Games

  • Indian weightlifter and 2020 Tokyo Olympics silver-medallist Mirabai Chanu has won the gold medal in the 55kg weight category at the Singapore Weightlifting International 2022 on February 25, 2022.
  • Chanu lifted 191kg (86kg+105kg) to stand on top of the podium.
  • With this win, the 27-year-old Chanu has qualified for the 2022 Commonwealth Games (CWG) in Birmingham in the 55kg weight category.
  • She has also qualified for the CWG in the 49kg weight category on the basis of her Commonwealth rankings.
