Union HRD Minister virtually launches ‘YUKTI 2.0’ platform for Higher Education Institutes

  • Union Minister of Human Resource Development, Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ has launched an initiative ‘YUKTI 2.0’ to help systematically adopt technologies that have commercial potential and information related to incubated startups in our higher education institutions.
  • The launch was done via video conferencing.
  • Earlier, the Minister had launched the YUKTI (Young India combating COVID with Knowledge, Technology and Innovation) web portal on 11 April, 2020. YUKTI 2.0 is logical extension of earlier version of ‘YUKTI’, an initiative of MHRD, to identify ideas relevant in COVID pandemic.

Ministry of MSME launches Credit Guarantee Scheme for Sub-ordinate Debt (CGSSD)

  • The Credit Guarantee Scheme for Sub-ordinate Debt (CGSSD) has been launched by Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises. The Scheme will provide Rs. 20,000 crore of guarantee cover to two lakh MSMEs.
  • The scheme is also called “Distressed Assets Fund–Sub-ordinate Debt for MSMEs”.  Guarantee cover worth Rs. 20,000 crores will be provided to the promoters who can take debt from the banks to further invest in their stressed MSMEs as equity.
  • Promoter(s) of the MSMEs will be given credit equal to 15% of their stake (equity plus debt) or Rs. 75 lakh whichever is lower.
  • 90% guarantee coverage for this sub-debt will be given under the Scheme and 10% would come from the concerned promoters
  • Moratorium and Repayment Period: There will be a moratorium of 7 years on payment of principal whereas maximum tenor for repayment will be 10 years.
  • The scheme will be operationalised through Credit Guarantee Fund Trust for MSEs (CGTMSE).

NITI Aayog, ITF Launch Decarbonizing Transport Project in India

  • NITI Aayog and the International Transport Forum (ITF) of OECD jointly launched the ‘Decarbonizing Transport in Emerging Economies’ (DTEE) project in India.
  • The launch was done via video conferencing and inaugurated by ITF Secretary-General Young Tae Kim and NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant.
  • It is a five-year project and will help India develop a pathway towards a low-carbon transport system through the development of modelling tools and policy scenarios.

Rajasthan govt to launch Indira Rasoi Yojana for the poor

  • Rajasthan Govt will launch a new kitchen scheme named “Indira Rasoi Yojana” for providing nutritious food to the poor and needy twice a day on concessional rates.
  • Rajasthan State government will spend Rs 100 crore every year on the Indira Rasoi Yojana. The announcement was made by Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.

IMF predicts India’s GDP rate for FY21 to contract by 4.5%

  • The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has projected that India’s GDP will contract by 4.5% in FY21. The reason for this is extended Covid-19 lockdown.
  • IMF has projected India’s GDP growth for FY22 at 6.0%.

India Ratings projects India’s GDP to contract by 5.3% in FY21

  • India Ratings and Research has projected the GDP growth of India to contract by 5.3% in 2020-21 (FY21).
  • India Ratings and Research expects the GDP of India to grow in the range of 5-6% in FY22.
  • This will be the lowest GDP growth in Indian history and the sixth instance of economic contraction, others being in FY58, FY66, FY67, FY73 and FY80.

Govt extends deadline to file ITR for FY19 till July 31; PAN-Aadhaar till March 2021

  • The Central Government has extended the deadline for the following:
    • for filing income tax returns (ITR) for FY 2018-19 by one month to July 31, 2020; (original as well as revised income tax returns)
    • for linking biometric Aadhaar with PAN till March 31, 2021.

India pledges USD 10 million to UN for Palestine refugees for next two years

  • India will contribute USD 10 million to the United Nation’s (UN) Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in the coming two years.
  • India had stepped up its annual pledge from 1.25 million US dollar to 5 million US dollar in 2018.

  • The International Maritime Organization (IMO) celebrates the annual Day of the Seafarer (DoS) on June 25 each year to pay respect to Seafarers and sailors who help the entire world function by conducting sea transport.
  • This special day has been celebrated since 2011.
  • 2020 marks the 10th anniversary of DoS
  • The theme of 2020 campaign is Seafarers are Key Workers.

Veteran journalist and politician Vishwa Bandhu Gupta passes away

  • Veteran journalist and politician Vishwa Bandhu Gupta passed away at the age of 94 years.
  • He was the editor of Tej group of publications and was also associated with Congress Party for past few years.
  • He was one of the founding members of Press Club of India.

Former India shooter Pournima Zanane passes away

  • Former India shooter Pournima Zanane passed away at the age of 42 years due to cancer.
  • She was also an International Shooting Sport Federation-licenced coach. She had represented India at multiple ISSF World Cups, Asian Championships, Commonwealth Championships.
