GDP Rate

Fitch Ratings lowers India’s FY23 growth forecast to 8.5% 

  • Fitch Ratings has slashed India’s GDP growth forecast for the fiscal FY 2022-2023 to 8.5 percent in its Global economic Outlook-March 2022.
  • Earlier this rate was estimated at 10.3%.
  • The Rating agency Fitch has revised upwards the GDP growth forecast for the current fiscal FY 2021-2022, by 0.6 percentage points to 8.7 percent.

National

Ministry of Heavy Industries extends Phase-II of FAME India Scheme for two years till 2024

  • Ministry of Heavy Industries had notified Phase-II of FAME India Scheme for three years from April 2019 to March 2022.
  • However, the government has extended the FAME II scheme for 2 years. So now this scheme will be applicable till March 2024.
  • Total budgetary support to Phase-II of FAME India Scheme for a period of five years is Rs. 10,000 crore, from financial year 2019-20 to 2023-24.
  • Focus area of Phase II will be mainly on supporting electrification of public & shared transportation through demand incentive and creation of a network of charging infrastructure.
  • Objective of FAME India Scheme is to promote adoption of electric/ hybrid vehicles (xEVs) in India.

 

75 Women felicitated by NITI Aayog at fifth edition of Women Transforming India Awards

  • The Women Entrepreneurship Platform (WEP) of the NITI Aayog organised the 5th edition of the Women Transforming India Awards (WTI) on 21 March 2022.
  • As part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, to celebrate 75 years of India’s independence, the WTI Awards have been conferred 75 women achievers for their contribution towards a ‘Sashakt Aur Samarth Bharat’.
  • The Women Transforming India Awards has been presented since 2018 by NITI Aayog, under the aegis of Women Entrepreneurship Platform (WEP), to highlight the commendable and ground-breaking endeavours of India’s women leaders and change-makers, with a special focus on entrepreneurship.

New Delhi is world’s most polluted capital city : IQAir’s 2021 World Air Quality Report

  • New Delhi has been ranked the world’s most polluted capital city for second consecutive year as per IQAir’s 2021 World Air Quality Report.
  • New Delhi is followed by Dhaka (Bangladesh), N’Djamena (Chad), Dushanbe (Tajikistan) and Muscat (Oman) as top five most polluted capital cities respectively..
  • Bhiwadi was the most polluted city in India, followed by Ghaziabad, Delhi and Jaunpur.
  • Bangladesh was the most polluted country, followed by Chad, Pakistan and Tajikistan. India was the fifth most polluted country.

India Placed 51st in Global House Price Index Q4 2021, Turkey Tops: Knight Frank

  • India has improved its rank by five spots to be placed at 51st position in the ‘Global House Price Index Q4 2021’ released by property consultant Knight FrankIndia was placed at 56th position in Q4 of 2020.
  • India witnessed 2.1 percent annual appreciation in housing price rates during the October-December quarter of the 2021 against Q4 of 2020.
  • Turkey saw the highest annual price growth rate by 59.6 percent in Q4 2021.
  • New Zealand (22.6 per cent), Czech Republic (22.1 per cent), Slovakia (22.1 per cent) and Australia (21.8 per cent) are among top 5 countries respectively in the latest research report.
  • Knight Frank’s Global House Price Index tracks the movement in mainstream residential prices across 56 countries and territories using official statistics.

Military Exercise

EX-DUSTLIK between Indian and Uzbekistan armies to be held at Yangiarik, Uzbekistan

  • The 3rd edition of the joint training exercise named EX-DUSTLIK between the Indian army and Uzbekistan army is being conducted at Yangiarik, Uzbekistan from 22 to 31 March 2022.
  • The last edition of DUSTLIK was conducted in Ranikhet (Uttarakhand) in March 2021.
  • The Indian contingent will be represented by the Grenadiers Regiment and will join the Uzbekistan Army contingent represented by troops of the North-Western Military District.

Burkina Faso’s Francis Kere receives 2022 Pritzker Architecture Prize

  • Diebedo Francis Kere of Burkina Faso has been declared the 2022 Laureate of the Pritzker Architecture Prize.
  • Pritzker Prize is the highest and most prestigious honour in architecture field, founded in 1979.
  • Francis Kere is the 51st winner of the award and the first Black person to receive the honour.
  • He is also the recipient of the 2004 Aga Khan Award for Architecture.

Cricketing legend G.R. Vishwanath launches his autobiography titled ‘Wrist Assured’

  • The autobiography of former Indian cricketer Gundappa Ranganatha Viswanath, titled ‘Wrist Assured: An Autobiography’ was released on March 17, 2022
  • The book has been co-authored by senior journalist and cricket writer R. Kaushik.
  • Rupa Publications India is the publisher of the book.

World Head Injury Awareness Day 2022: March 20

  • The World Head Injury Awareness Day is observed annually on March 20, to educate and foster awareness among the general public about traumatic head injuries and strategies to prevent accidents and brain injuries.
  • The theme for 2021-2023 campaign for world head injury awareness day is “More Than My Brain Injury”.

 

World Meteorological Day 2022: 23 March

  • The World Meteorological Day is celebrated every year on 23 March to commemorate the coming into force of the Convention for the establishment of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) in 23 March 1950
  • The day also highlights the contribution that the National Meteorological and Hydro-logical Services make to the safety and well-being of society.
  • The theme for 2022 World Meteorological Day is ‘ Early Warning and Early Action’.

Martyrs Day (Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev Thapar, and Shivaram Rajguru): 23 March

  • Every year, March 23 is observed as Martyrs Day (also known as Shaheed Diwas or Sarvodaya Day) to commemorate the death anniversary of the freedom fighters Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev Thapar, and Shivaram Rajguru, who laid their lives for the freedom of India.
  • It was on March 23 in 1931, in Lahore (Pakistan), that these three were hanged to death for assassinating John Saunders, a British police officer in 1928.
  • They had mistook Saunders for British police superintendent James Scott, who had ordered lathi charge, which eventually led to the death of Lala Lajpat Rai.

Former Malian Prime Minister Soumeylou Boubeye Maiga passes away at 67

  • The former Prime Minister of Mali, Soumeylou Boubèye Maïga has passed away due to illness. He was 67.
  • Maiga served as prime minister of Mali from 2017 until 2019.
  • He had been detained since August 2021 after the country was taken over by a military junta.
