Santosh Gangwar launches Logo of Labour Bureau

  • Shri Santosh Kumar Gangwar, Minister of State (I/C) for Labour and Employment launched the official logo of Labour Bureau on 20 August 2020.

Key Features of the Logo

  • The newly launched logo represents the three goals of Labour Bureau to produce quality data which are Accuracy, Validity and Reliability, thus signifying that Labour Bureau is a data based organization dealing in data related to workers and work.
  • Blue wheel: It is a cog wheel  representing work. Blue colour signifies that we deal with blue collar workers.
  • Graph: It is not going upwards alone as in real world data has ups & downs because it captures ground reality.
  • Tricolored Graph: The graph matches with the colors of the National flag, along with wheat ears, signifying the fruit of rural agricultural labour.

Labour Bureau 

  • Labour Bureau came into existence on October 1, 1946 by rechristening the Directorate of Cost of Living, which was established in the year 1941.
  • Labour Bureau is engaged in collection, compilation, analysis and dissemination of statistics on different facets of labours at All India level.

Arjun Munda e-Launches Trifood Project of TRIFED in Raigad, Maharashtra and Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh

  • The Union Tribal Affairs Minister Shri Arjun Munda virtually launched the  “Trifood Project” of TRIFED, Ministry of Tribal Affairs on 20 August 2020 which aims to enhance the income of tribals through better utilization and value addition to the Minor Forest Produce (MFP) collected by the tribal forest gatherers.
  • To begin with, two tertiary processing centres of “Trifood Project” have been launched. One of the centre has been launched in Raigad, Maharashtra and the other in Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh.
  • The Raigad unit will be used for value addition to mahua, amla, custard apple and jamun to produce mahua drink, amla juice, candy, jamun juice and custard apple pulp. Similarly Jagdalpur unit will be used for the processing of commodities like mahua, amla, honey, cashew, tamarind, ginger, garlic and other fruits and vegetables to make mahua drink, amla juice, candy, pure honey, ginger-garlic paste and fruit and vegetable pulp.
  • This initiative will act as a development package for tribals by promoting, employment, incomes and entrepreneurship.
  • TRIFOOD project is being implemented by TRIFED, Ministry of Tribal Affairs in association with Ministry of Food Processing (MoFPI).

Uttar Pradesh Govt Inks Deal with Israel for Bundelkhand water crisis solution

  • The Government of Uttar Pradesh has signed a ‘plan of cooperation’ with the Government of Israel for the management of water resources in Bundelkhand region of the state, which faces potable water shortage in summers.
  • The plan of cooperation for the ‘India –Israel – Bundelkhand Water Project’ was signed by the Israeli ambassador to India, Ron Malka, and UP’s Agriculture Production Commissioner Alok Sinha on 20 August, the day on which ‘India Day’ is celebrated in Israel.
  • The agreement has been signed for a period of two years and will be extended later.
  • The Bundelkhand Water Project comprises of three key components – water conservation, water efficient transportation and advanced water practices for agriculture.
  • Under this project 28 districts across the country, including two in Uttar Pradesh, have been selected.
  • In the first phase, 25 villages in Babina block of Jhansi district had been selected.
  • The project will provide farmers of the Bundelkhand region with latest farming technologies, including drip irrigation. The water reservoir of Pahuj dam in Jhansi will be enabled with integrated drip irrigation.

Keith Rowley Sworn in as Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister for Second 5 year term

  • Dr Keith Rowley has been sworn in as the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago for a second consecutive five-year term on 19 August 2020.
  • The 70-year-old Prime Minister Rowley’s ruling People’s National Movement party won 22 out of 41 seats in the House of Representatives in August 10 election to form the government.
  • He is serving as Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago since 9 September 2015.

Equatorial Guinea Re-elects Francisco Asue as PM of the country

  • Francisco Asue has been reappointed as Prime Minister of Equatorial Guinea.
  • This is Asue’s third consecutive term as PM. He was first appointed as PM of Equatorial Guinea in 2016.

Former cricketer Gopalaswamy Kasturirangan passes away at 89

  • Veteran cricketer Gopalaswamy Kasturirangan has passed away due to heart attack. He was 89.
  • He had played only in the first-class cricket in India for Mysore as the right-arm medium pace bowler from 1948 to 1963.
  • Kasturirangan was also the former BCCI Curator and Vice President of  Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA).

  • The second annual International Day Commemorating the Victims of Acts of Violence Based on Religion or Belief is being observed on 22 August 22, 2020.
  • The international day aims to remember the victims and survivors of evil acts on the basis of or in the name of religion or belief.
  • It aims to spread awareness that international communities must work together to achieve justice for the survivors of past abuses by holding perpetrators accountable, and demonstrating to governments that action must be taken to ‘never again’ tolerate genocide or other atrocities.
  • The day was adopted at the 73rd UN General Assembly on 28 May 2019 as proposed by Poland.
