National

India’s first elevated urban expressway ‘Dwarka Expressway’ to be operational in 2023

  • The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is developing the Dwarka Expressway as the first elevated urban expressway in India.
  • Dwarka Expressway is also known as the Northern Peripheral Road in Haryana portion.
  • The Expressway will connect Dwarka in Delhi to Gurugram in Haryana.
  • The Dwarka Expressway is proposed to be operational in 2023. It will reduce pressure on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway and arterial roads that experience severe traffic congestion.
  • Besides, it shall also immensely help in reducing the air pollution in Delhi-NCR.
  • The 16-lane highway is being developed at a total cost of Rs 9,000 Crore.
  • Its total length will be of 29 km out of which 19 km length falls in Haryana while the remaining 10 km of length is in Delhi.

Nasscom joins hand with Google for DigiVaani Call Center to help rural women entrepreneurs scale up business

  • Nasscom Foundation and Google have announced setting up a call centre in collaboration with a not-for-profit body Indian Society of Agribusiness Professionals (ISAP) to help women farmers scale up their business.
  • The “DigiVaani Call Center” project is being run on a pilot basis and initially around 20,000 rural women entrepreneurs shall be covered across six states, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana and Rajasthan.
  • DigiVaani will be one place where rural women entrepreneurs will be able to call and get the information around various schemes available for them, which can help them scale up their business, be it government scheme or any other information that can be of help for them.
  • A DigiVaani call centre has been set up at the Delhi and Lucknow offices of ISAP.
  • The project is funded by Google, through its philathropic arm Google.org.

PM Modi attends first virtual I2U2 summit

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the first virtual I2U2 Summit on July 14, 2022.
  • The I2U2 is a four-nation grouping, where “I” stands for India and Israel, and “U” for the US and the UAE.
  • PM Modi was joined by United States President Joe Biden, Israeli PM Yair Lapid and UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
  • The main focus of the virtual meeting was on food security crisis and clean energy.
  • The United Arab Emirates (UAE) also announced an investment of USD 2 billion to develop a series of integrated food parks across India to help tackle food insecurity in South Asia and the Middle East.
  • This I2U2 grouping was conceptualised during the meeting of the foreign ministers of the four countries held on October 18 2021. I2U2 will bring together countries, governments and the private sector to tackle challenges.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh launches 75 Artificial Intelligence technologies during first-ever ‘AI in Defence’ symposium & exhibition in New Delhi

  • Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh launched 75 newly-developed Artificial Intelligence (AI) products/technologies during the first-ever ‘AI in Defence’ (AIDef) symposium and exhibition.
  • The event was organised by Ministry of Defence in New Delhi on July 11, 2022, as part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ celebrations.
  • The Minister also released the physical as well as e-version of the book comprising the details of these 75 products, which fall under various domains.
  • As a part of the event, ‘Raksha Niryat Ratna’ awards were presented to Bharat Electronics Limited from the public sector and to Indo-MIM from the private sector for achieving highest defence exports in recent years.
  • The award was in line with the vision of MoD to achieve defence exports of Rs 35,000 crore by 2025 and provide boost to the domestic industry.

Mexico’s former President Luis Echeverria passes away at 100

  • Luis Echeverria Alvarez, the former President of Mexico has passed away. He was 100.
  • A lawyer by profession, Echeverria served as the 57th President of Mexico from 1970 to 1976.
