Flipkart Ties up with ICICI Lombard and Digit Insurance to offer COVID-19 focussed health insurance

  • E-commerce firm Flipkart, announced the launch of two health insurance policies on its platform covering COVID-19, in partnership with India’s leading insurers – ICICI Lombard and Digit Insurance.

1. ‘Covid-19 Protection Cover’ by ICICI Lombard 

  • It is priced at an annual premium of Rs 159.
  • The product provides an instant Rs 25,000 benefit plan paid to the customer if he tests positive for Covid-19.

2. ‘Digit Illness Group Insurance’ offered by Digit Insurance

  • It allows consumers to avail a hospitalization cover up to a sum assured of Rs 1 lakh with an annual premium of Rs 511.
  • Further, there is no limit on room rent or ICU.
  • The policy covers 30-day pre and 60 days post hospitalization fee.
  • Policyholders can also avail 1 per cent of the sum assured for ambulance services.

IMF MD ropes in Raghuram Rajan, 11 others to key external advisory group

  • IMF MD Kristalina Georgieva has named 12 people including former RBI governor Raghuram Rajan to her external advisory group.
  • These people have been included with the objective of providing perspectives from around the world on key developments and policy issues and responses to the exceptional challenges the world now faces due to the coronavirus pandemic.
  • Other members of the group are Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Senior Minister of Singapore and Chairman of the Monetary Authority of Singapore; Kristin Forbes, Professor, Massachusetts Institute of Technology; Kevin Rudd, former Prime Minister of Australia; Lord Mark Malloch Brown, former UN deputy secretary-general among others.

Mahabaleshwara M S Reappointed as MD & CEO of Karnataka Bank for 3 Years

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved the reappointment of Mahabaleshwara M S as MD and CEO of private sector lender Karnataka Bank for a period of three years with effect from April 15, 2020.
  • The regulator has also approved for reappointment of P Jayarama Bhat as Part Time (Non Executive) Chairman of the bank.
  • He will hold office upto November 13, 2021 (i.e. upto the upper age limit of 70 years).

RV Verma Appointed as Non-Executive Chairman of AU Small Finance Bank for 3 Years

  • Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved the appointment of Raj Vikash (RV) Verma, former Chairman and Managing Director of National Housing Bank, as Non-Executive Chairman of AU Small Finance Bank for a period of one year with effect from April 8, 2020.
  • Verma has been associated with AU Small Finance Bank since 2018 as an independent director.
  • RBI has also approved the re-appointment of Sanjay Agarwal as Managing Director & CEO of the bank, while Uttam Tibrewal as Wholetime Director of AU Small Finance Bank for a period of three years with effect from April 19, 2020.

CRPF Valour Day: 9 April

  • Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Valour Day (Shaurya Diwas) is observed on 9 April every year, as a tribute to the brave men of the Force. 2020 marks 55th CRPF Valour Day.
  • It was on this day in 1965, a small contingent of CRPF created history by defeating an invading Pakistani army, several time larger, at the Sardar Post located in the Rann of Kutch, Gujarat.
  • The CRPF men eliminated 34 Pakistani soldiers and captured four alive.
  • In the conflict, CRPF lost six personnel who had attained martyrdom.

National Safe Motherhood Day : April 11

  • National Safe Motherhood Day is observed every year on April 11 to raise awareness about adequate access to care for women during pregnancy, childbirth and postnatal services.
  • The day also marks the birth anniversary of Kasturba Gandhi, the wife of the father of Nation Mohan Das Karam Chand Gandhi.
  • In 2003, upon the initiative of the White Ribbon Alliance, the Government of India declared the national safe motherhood day to be held on April 11 and also became the first country to do so.

International Day of Human Space Flight: 12 April

  • The International Day of Human Space Flight is celebrated annually on April 12 to mark the anniversary of the first human space flight by Yuri Gagarin on April 12, 1961.
  • The day was proclaimed at the 65th session of the United Nations General Assembly on April 7, 2011, a few days before the 50th anniversary of the flight.
  • In Soviet Union, the day is observed as International Day of Aviation and Cosmonautics.
