HRD Ministry Launches Week-long ‘Bharat Padhe Online’ Campaign to invite ideas for improving online education ecosystem

• The Union Minister of Human Resource Development (HRD) Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ has launched a week long campaign titled ‘Bharat Padhe Online’ for crowd sourcing of ideas for improving online education ecosystem of India.
• Under the campaign any resident of the country can share suggestions/solutions directly with HRD Ministry to overcome constraints of online education.
• The educators across the country can also come forward to contribute with their expertise and experience in the field of education.
• The ideas can be shared till 16th April 2020 on bharatpadheonline.mhrd@gmail.com and also on twitter by using #BharatPadheOnline.
• While using Twitter one must tag @HRDMinistry and @DrRPNishank so that ideas can be notified to the Ministry.

Delhi Government Launches “Operation SHIELD” for Containment of COVID-19

• On 9 April 2020, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has announced the launch of an initiative called “Operation SHIELD” in the capital city to curb the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
• Here SHIELD stands for:
  • Sealing of the immediate area/surroundings after geographical marking
  • Home quarantine of all the people living in the area
  • Isolation and tracing of people who have been first and second contacts
  • Essential supply of commodities is ensured
  • Local sanitisation of the area by authorities
  • Door-to-door health checks of everyone living in the area
• The Operation Shield will be implemented in 21 localities identified as containment zones in Delhi.

RBI launches twitter campaign for Digital Payment with Amitabh Bachchan as face of the campaign

• The Reserve Bank of India on April 09, 2020 launched a twitter campaign urging bank customers to adopt digital modes of payment that are convenient and safe.
• The face of the campaign is Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan.
• The RBI, through the campaign, reiterated the multiple digital payment options such as NEFT, IMPS, UPI and BBPS that are available 24*7.

Jana Small Finance Bank rolls out digital banking platform- DigiGen

• Jana Small Finance Bank has launched a digital banking platform named “DigiGen”, where customers can digitally open a savings account and fixed deposit instantly.
• DigiGen onboarding is a three-step process to open an account. Tagline of Jana Small Finance Bank- ‘paise ki kadar’.

ADB assures $2.2 bn aid to India to fight Covid-19 pandemic

• The Asian Development Bank (ADB) President Masatsugu Asakawa has announced $2.2 billion in immediate assistance for India to support the country in combating Covid-19 pandemic.
• Besides supporting the health sector, the $2.2 billion (about Rs 16,500 crore) will be used to help alleviate the economic impact of the pandemic on the poor; informal workers; micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises; and the financial sector.

Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter Mary Jordan Pens book on Melania Trump

• A Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter Mary Jordan, who works for The Washington Post, has written an unauthorized biography of US first lady Melania Trump.
• The book titled “The Art of Her Deal : The Untold Story of Melania Trump” is based upon more than 100 interviews to present a surprising portrait of a determined immigrant and the life she had before she met Donald Trump.
• The book is scheduled to be released on June 16, 2020.

World Homeopathy Day: 10 April

• The World Homeopathy Day is celebrated each year on April 10 to honor the birth of the father of the Homeopathy system of medicines Dr. Samuel Hahnemann.
• Theme of 2020 : “Enhancing the scope of Homoeopathy in Public Health”.
• Homeopathy is one of the Medicine systems in the AYUSH Ministry – ‘Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy’.

Padma Shri classical singer Shanti Hiranand passes away at 87

• Renowned Hindustani classical singer Shanti Hiranand Chawla passed away at the age of 87 years.
• She was a Padma Shri awardee and trained in thumri, dadra and ghazal singing.
• She had also penned a book titled “Begum Akhtar: The Story of My Ammi.” which depicts her journey with her music guru, Begum Akhtar.

Former cricketer Jackie du Preez passes away

• The former Zimbabwean cricketer Jackie du Preez passed away due to poor health conditions.
• He was born in Zimbabwe, however, he played for South Africa in Zimbabwe’s pre-independence days.
• After he retired in 1979, he served his nation, Zimbabwe as a national selector in cricket.
