Vice President Venkaiah Naidu confers Sangeet Natak Akademi and Lalit Kala Akademi Fellowships and Awards

  • The Vice President, Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu presented the Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowship and Sangeet Natak Awards for the year 2018 to 43 eminent artists ((4 Fellows and 40 awardees)).
  • Shri Naidu also presented Fellowships and National Awards of Lalit Kala Akademi for the year 2021 to 23 people (3 Fellows and 20 National Awards ).
  • The awards were presented during the 62nd National Exhibition of Art, organised by the Lalit Kala Akademi and inaugurated by Minister of Culture, Shri G. Kishan Reddy on April 09, 2022 in New Delhi.

India successfully flight-tested Pinaka Mk-I (Enhanced) Rocket System and Pinaka Area Denial Munition Rocket Systems

  • The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Army successfully flight-tested a new version of the Pinaka rocket system at the Pokhran firing ranges on April 09, 2022.
  • These included Pinaka Mk-I (Enhanced) Rocket System (EPRS) and Pinaka Area Denial Munition (ADM) rocket systems.
  • The EPRS is the upgraded version of the Pinaka variant, which has been in service with the Indian Army for the last decade.
  • The rocket system has been upgraded with advanced technologies and enhanced range to meet the emerging requirements.
  • The Pinaka rocket system has been developed by DRDO lab- Armament Research and Development Establishment, Pune in collaboration with High Energy Materials Research Laboratory, Pune.

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurates two-day scientific convention on ‘Homoeopathy: People’s Choice for Wellness’ in New Delhi

  • The Union Minister of AYUSH Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated a two-day scientific convention on the theme ‘Homoeopathy: People’s Choice for Wellness’ in New Delhi on April 09, 2022.
  • The convention has been organised jointly by the three apex bodies under Ministry of Ayush namely, Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy, National Commission for Homoeopathy and National Institute of Homoeopathy to mark the occasion of the World Homoeopathy Day.
  • This convention is an opportunity to review the achievements in the field of Homoeopathy and to formulate future strategies for development of Homoeopathy.

Union Minister Bhupender Yadav Chairs 20th NTCA Meeting at Pakke Tiger Reserve in Arunachal Pradesh

  • The 20th Meeting of National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) was held on April 09, 2022 at Pakke Tiger Reserve in Arunachal Pradesh.
  • The meeting was chaired by Union Minister for Environment, Forest & Climate Change Shri Bhupender Yadav.
  • It is for the first time in history the NTCA meeting, that it took place outside the national capital.
  • The Union Minister had directed that in order to get first hand information about reserve, local issues etc. these meetings will be held outside Delhi in forest areas or in tiger reserves, henceforth.

RBI releases Guidelines on Establishment of Digital Banking Units (DBUs)

  • In the Union Budget 2022-23, the government of India announced the setting up of 75 Digital Banking Units (DBUs) in 75 districts to commemorate the 75 years of independence of our country (Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav).
  • To achieve this objective, the Reserve Bank of India has released the guidelines on the establishment of Digital Banking Units (DBUs). 
  • Digital Banking Unit (DBU): It will be a specialised fixed point business unit / hub housing certain minimum digital infrastructure for delivering digital banking products & services as well as servicing existing financial products & services digitally, in both self-service and assisted mode for a minimum of 4 hours per day for at least five days a week.
  • Which Banks can open Digital Banking Unit? Scheduled Commercial Banks (other than RRBs, Payments Bank and Local Area Banks) with past digital banking experience are permitted to open DBUs in Tier 1 to Tier 6 centres.

IFSCA inks MoU with World Bank promoted GVFL Limited for strengthening the FinTech ecosystem in GIFT IFSC

  • The International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) and GVFL Limited signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at Gift City on April 07, 2022 for co-operation and collaboration to support and facilitate FinTech ecosystem in GIFT IFSC.
  • GVFL Limited is pioneer of Venture Capital in India, managed by an independent and autonomous Board.
  • The company was set up in 1990 and is based in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. It is promoted by World Bank and Government of Gujarat.
  • The main purpose of the Company is to support venture capital ecosystem in multiple sectors including FinTech sector by funding and encouraging entrepreneurs with innovative Ideas.

Book titled “Not Just a Nightwatchman: My Innings in the BCCI” by former CAG Vinod Rai

  • Former CAG Vinod Rai has come out with a new book titled “NOT JUST A NIGHTWATCHMAN: My Innings in the BCCI” has been released recently.
  • In the book Rai has narrated his stint of 33 months at BCCI, when he was appointment as the head of the Supreme Court-mandated Committee of Administrators (CoA) in the BCCI.
  • The book has been published by Rupa Publications India.
  • Vinod Rai was appointed as the 11th Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) in 2008. He was also appointed the first chairman of the newly created Banks Board Bureau (BBB) during 2016-2018.
  • Other books written by him includes: Not Just an Accountant: The Diary of the Nation’s Conscience Keeper and Rethinking Good Governance: Holding to Account India’s Public Institutions.

India Bags 10 medal with 3 gold at 2022 Thailand Open Boxing Tournament

  • The 15-member Indian boxing contingents ended their campaign at the Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament 2022 in Phuket with 10 medals, including three golds, four silvers, and three bronze. List of Medal Winners include:

India wins first-ever gold medal at WSF World Doubles Squash championships

  • The second seeded Indian duo Dipika Pallikal Karthik and Saurav Ghosal won the mixed double title at 2022 WSF World Doubles Squash championship at Glasglow on April 09, 2022.
  • The Indian duo thrashed the fourth seeded pair of Adrian Waller and Alison Waters of England in the mixed doubles finals in straight sets 11-6, 11-8.
  • Apart from this, Dipika and Joshna Chinappa paired to win women’s doubles final, 11-9, 4-11, 11-8 defeating England’s Sarah Jane Perry and Waters.
  • Meanwhile, England’s Declan James and James Willstrop beat Scotland’s Greg Lobban and Rory Stewart, 11-10; 11-6, to win men’s doubles final.
  • This is the first gold medal for India at WSF World Doubles Squash championship, which the country had never won before this.
