Narendra Modi Cabinet 2.0 Reshuffle: Complete List Along with Portfolios

  • The Union Cabinet led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expanded its council of ministers, as a part of the cabinet reshuffle, with a total of 43 leaders taking oath of office and secrecy on July 07, 2021, at the Rashtrapati Bhawan.
  • This is the first Council of Ministers reshuffle by PM Modi since assuming charge for a second term in May 2019.
  • These 43 ministers comprise of 36 new entrants and seven promotions to Cabinet rank.
  • Also, 12 ministers, including seven Cabinet and five ministers of state, have resigned from the council of ministers so far.
  • With the cabinet reshuffle 2.0, the size of new council of ministers of the Narendra Modi government has increased from 53 to 77 ministers (excluding the PM), including 30 Cabinet ministers and 47 ministers of state.

India’s first maritime arbitration centre to be set up in Gandhinagar

  • The Gujarat Maritime University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) in GIFT City to set up the Gujarat International Maritime Arbitration Centre (GIMAC).
  • GIMAC will be the first of its kind centre in India to manage arbitration and mediation proceedings for disputes related to the maritime and shipping sector.
  • It will be part of a maritime cluster that is being set up by Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB) at GIFT City in Gandhinagar.

Indian Railways Install India’s First Movable Freshwater Tunnel Aquarium at Bengaluru Station

  • The Indian Railways has launched India’s first movable freshwater tunnel aquarium ‘Aquatic Kingdom’ at the Krantivira Sangolli Rayanna Railway Station, which is also known as Bengaluru City Railway Station.
  • The state-of-the-art aquarium has been jointly opened by the Indian Railway Stations Development Cooperation Limited (IRSDC) in collaboration with the HNi Aquatic Kingdom.
  • The Aquatic Kingdom aquarium is based on the concept of Amazon River and is 12-feet long.

World’s tallest sandcastle built in Denmark

  • sandcastle in Denmark has entered into new Guinness World Record for being the tallest sandcastle in the world.
  • The triangular shaped sandcastle has been built in the town of Blokhus in Denmark. It stands at a height of 21.16 metres.
  • This new structure is 3.5m taller than the previous record held by sandcastle measuring 17.66 m in Germany in 2019.

Ministry of Defence implements SPARSH System for sanction & disbursement of defence pension

  • Ministry of Defence has implemented SPARSH [System for Pension Administration (Raksha)] which is a web-based system, for automated sanction and disbursement of defence pension.
  • SPARSH system can processes pension claims and credits pension directly into the bank accounts of defence pensioners without relying on any external intermediary.
  • The system has been implemented with agreement between Controller General of Defence Accounts (CGDA), State Bank of India (SBI) and Punjab National Bank (PNB). 
  • For any issues related to pension, the pension may approach any branch of SBI or PNB.

Amazon launches its first Digital Kendra in India in Surat, Gujarat

  • E-Commerce company, Amazon has launched its first Digital Kendra in India in Surat, Gujarat.
  • Digital Kendras of Amazon are centers that will provide micro small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) the opportunity to learn about the benefits of e-commerce.
  • MSMEs can visit the Amazon Digital Kendra and avail third party services including training on benefits of ecommerce, GST and taxation support, shipping and logistics support, cataloging assistance and digital marketing services.
  • Amazon Digital Kendra was inaugurated by Vijay Rupani, Chief Minister of Gujarat.

Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh passes away at 87

  • Senior Congress leader and former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister, Virbhadra Singh, has passed away, battling a prolonged illness.
  • He was 87.
  • The veteran politician was the 4th and longest-serving Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh.
  • He served as the Chief Minister of the state for six times, from April 8, 1983 to March 5, 1990, December 3, 1993 to March 23, 1998, March 6, 2003 to December 29, 2007 and then for the sixth time from December 25, 2012 to December 26, 2017.
  • Apart from this, Singh also served as union deputy minister in Tourism and Civil Aviation, Minister of State for Industries, Union Minister of Steel and Union Minister of micro, small & medium enterprises (MSME).

Double Olympic gold-winning hockey legend Keshav Datt passes away at 95

  • Keshav Datt, one of India’s finest hockey players and two-time Olympic gold medallist, has passed away, due to age-related ailments.
  • He was 95.
  • Datt was the last surviving member of the Indian hockey team that won gold at the 1948 London Olympics and 1952 Helsinki Olympics Games.
  • In 2019, Datt became the first non-football sportsperson to be conferred the Mohun Bagan Ratna.
