J-K LG Manoj Sinha launches SPARROW system for its Administrative Service officers

  • The Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, Manoj Sinha recently launched a Smart Performance Appraisal Report Recording Online Window (SPARROW) system for Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Service officers.
  • The SPARROW system aims to bring more transparency, avoide loss of Appraisal Reports during the transition, ensure better monitoring and timely completion of performance appraisals.

NITI Aayog constitutes Multidimensional Poverty Index Coordination Committee (MPICC); Head- Ms Sanyukta Samaddar

  • NITI Aayog has constituted a Multidimensional Poverty Index Coordination Committee (MPICC). The MPICC is chaired by Ms. Sanyukta Samaddar, Adviser (SDG)
  • NITI Aayog is the nodal agency for the Global Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) and has been assigned the responsibility of leveraging the monitoring mechanism for it and to drive reforms.
  • Global MPI is an international measure of multidimensional poverty covering 107 developing countries and was first developed in 2010 by Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative (OPHI) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for UNDP’s Human Development Reports.

DRDO successfully flight tests Hypersonic Technology Demonstrator Vehicle (HSTDV)

  • Defense Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully demonstrated the hypersonic air-breathing scramjet technology with the flight test of the Hypersonic Technology Demonstration Vehicle (HSTDV) from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Launch Complex at Wheeler Island, off the coast of Odisha on September 07, 2020.
  • India has thus become the fourth country after the United States, Russia and China to develop and successfully test hypersonic technology.
  • It will serve as the building block for next-generation hypersonic cruise missiles.

Vodafone Idea re-brands itself as ‘VI’

  • India’s telecom service provider Vodafone Idea Limited has announced that it has re-branded itself as ‘VI’, to mark the completion of the largest telecom merger in the world and present itself as a merged entity.
  • The announcement was made by company’s MD and CEO Ravinder Takkar on 7th September 2020.
  • Now all the products of the company will be available under the new unified brand identity and logo “VI”.

Vinkesh Gulati appointed as new President of FADA

  • Vinkesh Gulati, has been appointed as the 35th President of the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA).
  • He succeeds Ashish Harsharaj Kale and will serve the role of president from 2020 to 2022.
  • The FADA is an apex national body representing automobile dealers of India.

International Day of Clean Air for blue skies: 07 September

  • The inaugural edition of the International Day of Clean Air for blue skies is being observed globally on 7th September, 2020 to promote and facilitate actions to improve air quality..
  • It is a UN recognised day which aims to raise public awareness at all levels (individual, community, corporate and government) that clean air is important for health, productivity, the economy and the environment.
  • The theme for 2020 is “Clean Air for All.”
  • The United Nations General Assembly adopted the Resolution to hold an International Day of Clean Air for blue skies on December 19, 2019, during its 74th session and invited the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

International Literacy Day: 8 September

  • International Literacy Day is observed annually on September 8 across the world to highlight the importance of literacy to individuals, communities and societies.
  • The day was declared by UNESCO on 26 October 1966 at 14th session of UNESCO’s General conference. It was celebrated for the first time in 1967.
  • The theme of 54th International Literacy Day is “Literacy teaching and learning in the COVID-19 crisis and beyond.”
