Central Government creates a new ‘Ministry of Co-operation’

  • The Central Government of India has created a separate and new ministry named ‘Ministry of Co-operation’.
  • This ministry will provide a separate administrative, legal, and policy framework for strengthening the cooperative movement in the country.
  • What is a co-operative? Cooperatives are people-centered enterprises owned, controlled, and run by and for their members to realize their common economic, social, and cultural needs.
  • The new ministry has been created by the BJP led Government for realizing the vision of ‘Sahkar se Samriddhi’. (Sahkar means co-operative and Samriddhi means Prosperity.)
  • How will the ministry help co-operatives?- The Ministry will work to streamline processes for ‘Ease of doing business’ for co-operatives and enable the development of Multi-State Cooperatives (MSCS).

Centre launches ‘Matsya Setu’ mobile app for Indian aqua farmers

  • The Union Minister of  Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Shri Giriraj Singh has launched a mobile app named ‘Matsya Setu’ on July 06, 2021 for fish farmers.
  • The Matsya Setu is an online course app with the objective to bring the latest freshwater aquaculture technologies to the aqua farmers of the country.
  • The app has been developed by the ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture (ICAR-CIFA), Bhubaneswar, with the funding support of the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB), Hyderabad.

Government includes Retail and Wholesale Trade in MSME sector

  • Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises has decided to include Retail and Wholesale trade as MSMEs but only for the limited purpose of Priority Sector Lending.
  • This means that these segment of business can now take loan under Priority Sector Lending arrangement under MSME category.
  • These Retail and Wholesale traders can now register on Udyam Registration Portal. It is a portal by Government of India for registration of MSMEs.
  • The registration will be allowed under three categories:
    • Wholesale and retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles
    • Wholesale trade except of motor vehicles and motorcycles
    • Retail trade except of motor vehicles and motorcycles.

Fitch Ratings projects India GDP growth for FY22 at 10%

  • Fitch Ratings has revised its GDP growth projection for India in 2021-22 (FY22) to 10%. Earlier it has projected the same at 12.8%.
  • The reason for this cut is the slow recovery post second wave of COVID-19.

Paytm Launches small ticket loan product ‘Postpaid Mini’

  • Financial services and digital payments platform, Paytm, has launched a new product called Postpaid Mini, that will enable users to get small loans ranging from Rs. 250 to Rs. 1,000.
  • The initiative has been launched by Paytm in partnership with Aditya Birla Finance Ltd.
  • The Postpaid Mini product is an extension of the ‘Buy Now, Pay Later’ service launched by Paytm.
  • The small ticket instant loans will help users to manage their household expenses and maintain liquidity during the ongoing Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
  • The loan will have a period of up to 30 days for repayment at 0 percent interest.
  • Users can use the money to pay for their monthly expenses, like mobile and direct to home (DTH) recharges, gas cylinder booking, electricity and water bills, shop on Paytm Mall etc.

Razorpay partners with Mastercard to launch ‘MandateHQ’

  • Razorpay has partnered with Mastercard to launch ‘MandateHQ’. It is a payment interface that will help card-issuing banks to enable recurring payments for their customers.
  • It must be noted that the Reserve Bank of India had issued a framework for processing e-mandates on recurring online transactions. The product by Razorpay is a step in this direction.
  • The MandateHQ solution can be fully integrated with any bank within seven days.

Actor Dilip Kumar passes away at 98

  • Legendary actor Dilip Kumar passed away on July 07, 2021, at the age of 98 years due to prolonged illness. 
  • The real name of Dilip Kumar was Mohammed Yusuf Khan. He was also known as the first Khan of Bollywood. He was married to Saira Bano.
  • His first film as an actor was Jwar Bhata. He was awarded India’s second-highest civilian award, the Padma Vibhushan in 2015.
