National
Indian Railways to bring 2,000 km of network under ‘KAVACH’ in 2022-23 for safety and capacity augmentation
- The Indian Railways has planned to deploy its indigenously developed Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system, ‘Kavach’, in phased manner across all the network.
- To begin with and as a part of Atmanirbhar Bharat, the system will be rolled out across 2,000 km of network in the 2022-23 fiscal.
- Subsequently, 4,000 to 5,000 km of network will be covered every year, bringing around 34,000 Kms of network under Kavach.
- KAVACH is a state of the art electronic system meant to provide protection by preventing trains to pass the signal at Danger (Red) and avoid collision. This will boost safety in train operation.
Union Fisheries Minister Parshottam Rupala inaugurates ‘Sagar Parikrama’ initiative from Gujarat
- As a part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsava’, the Union Ministry for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying has organised ‘Sagar Parikrama’ initiative, to understand the challenges, experiences and aspirations of fishermen community.
- The programme will be held in phased manner in states that have a coastline. To begin with, Gujarat will mark the first state under this initiative.
- The Union Minister for Fisheries, Shri Parshottam Rupala inaugurated the ‘Sagar Parikrama’ on March 05, 2022 from Gujarat.
Prime Minister inaugurates Rs 11,400 Crore Pune Metro Rail Project
- The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated Pune Metro Rail Project on March 06, 2022, and also interacted with differently-abled, visually impaired students present inside the metro coach, during his 10-minute ride in the Pune Metro.
- Pune Metro Rail Project has been built at a total cost of INR 11,420 Crore. It has a total length of 33.2 km and 30 stations.
- Pune Metro is the first metro project in the country to have Aluminum body coaches, indigenously manufactured under Make in India policy of GoI.
CISF Observes 53rd Raising Day on March 06, 2022
- The 53rd Raising Day ceremony of Central Industrial Security Forces (CISF) was organised on March 06, 2022, in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.
- Union Home Minister Amit Shah attended and addressed the Raising Day ceremony of CISF at Ghaziabad’s Indirapuram. he also inspected the parade of the force.

Conference
IIT Madras and NIOT jointly organises OCEANS 2022 Conference virtually
- The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras and the National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), Chennai, jointly organised the OCEANS 2022 Conference and Exposition, from February 21-24, 2022 in hybrid mode in Chennai.
- The bi-annual conference was held for the first time in India. The theme of the event was “inspire-innovate-sustain”.
- It was co-sponsored by the Institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Ocean Engineering Society (IEEE OES) and Marine Technology Society (MTS).
- The conference provided a platform for global maritime professionals to learn, innovate, and lead in the protection and utilisation of the world’s largest natural resource, which is ‘oceans’.

Indian Navy successfully test fires extended range BrahMos land attack missile
- The Indian Navy successfully test-fired the long range version of the BrahMos cruise missile on March 05, 2022 from the stealth destroyer INS Chennai.
- The purpose of the trial was to demonstrate the accuracy of an extended-range land attack Brahmos supersonic cruise missile.
- The missile hit its intended target with pinpoint accuracy
- The BrahMos is a supersonic cruise missile manufactured by an Indo-Russian joint venture.
HANSA-NG successfully completes sea level trials at Puducherry
- India’s first indigenously developed Flying Trainer ‘HANSA-NG’, successfully completed the sea-level trials at Puducherry from February 19 to March 5.
- The aircraft has been designed and developed by CSIR-National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL), under the aegis of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).
- HANSA-NG was flown from Bengaluru to Puducherry on February 19, covering a distance of 140 nautical miles in 1.5 hours at a cruising speed of 155 km/hr.

- Bollywood actress, Vidya Balan has been appointed as the Brand Ambassador of Bharti AXA Life Insurance.
- Vidya will help the insurance company to further deepen its campaign “#DoTheSmartThing”
- Parag Raja is the managing director and chief executive officer of Bharti AXA Life Insurance.
SBI appoints ex-Ujjivan Small Finance Bank CEO Nitin Chugh as DMD
- State Bank of India (SBI) has appointed Nitin Chugh as Deputy Managing Director (DMD) to drive digital banking operations.
- Nitin Chugh is a former Ujjivan Small Finance Bank CEO. He has also served as the Group Head of Digital Banking at HDFC Bank.

- The biography of pop icon Usha Uthup titled “The Queen of Indian Pop: The Authorised Biography of Usha Uthup” was released on February 28, 2022.
- The book was originally written in Hindi titled “Ullas Ki Naav” by author Vikas Kumar Jha.
- “The Queen of Indian Pop: The Authorised Biography of Usha Uthup” is the English translation of the book, translated by the writer’s daughter Srishti Jha.
- The book is published by Penguin Random House India (PRHI).
‘The Blue Book’ by Author and Journalist Amitava Kumar
- Indian writer and journalist Amitava Kumar has come out with a new book titled ‘The Blue Book: A Writer’s Journal’.
- The book has been published by HarperCollins India.

Mithali Raj becomes first woman cricketer to appear at six Cricket World Cups; Overall 3rd cricketer
- Indian women cricket captain Mithali Raj has become the first woman to appear in six World Cups. She is the only third cricketer overall to play six world cup after Sachin Tendulkar and Javed Miandad.
- She has played in the ICC women’s cricket world cup events in 2000, 2005, 2009, 2013, 2017 and now in 2022.
- The ICC women’s cricket world cup 2022 is being held in New Zealand.
